Testing out my waiting screen (WiP):

Don't worry, I made sure to check for usage rights when I searched on Google Images.

Edit: I was thinking of adding the title of the stream into the triangle, what do you all think?

If it's part of your layout, don't use it. Prefabs should be limited to things that you'd find multiple times in a map (lighting setups, stairs, etc) or are part of making your gamemode function.

So, there's a new countdown for this 72hr contest - it's much larger so it should look a little nicer when it's scaled about in your streams, it's also slightly more customizable than the old one.

It looks like this:

Some steps

Here are some of the customization options available, these work by appending to the URL's Query String (these are case sensitive!):

  • noaudio stops audio from playing
  • targetTime changes the time the countdown is counting down to. Use the following values for the alternate weekends:
    • 13th July - 1436814000
    • 20th July - 1437418800
    • 27th July - 1438023600
  • TVImage - A Link to an image to use as the TV background
  • TVColor - The background color of the TV, set to transparent if you'd like to put something dynamic under the screen in your stream.
  • transform - Advanced, this uses CSS transforms to allow you to change the size, rotation and shape of the countdown. You can use any of the values here: http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css3_pr_transform.asp - for example "transform=rotate(-10deg) translate(0, 50px)" gives the clock a slight rotation. You will need to modify the height/width to make this fit.

Quick question: will we be getting a countdown clock on the site this year? If so, will it be for all of the weekends of the contest or just the main one? Just wondering.

The proper site countdown will only be up for the "real deal," so to speak. Here's a countdown for this weekend's alternate time:

Time converter at worldtimebuddy.com

I've also added this to the original post for convenience.

Probably because we lack the capability to test MVM maps? Just a guess

MVM has been allowed in past i think. I assume it's because MVM maps take ages to test and there's a limit of 6 players who can test at a time so it's kinda difficult.

Is there a specific thread were supposed to upload our maps?
or this time do we just post our maps in the contest entries of the download section

I always wondered, how do you know if someone actually put 72 hours into their work? Like they could have just made a map at their disposal and posted it right on the day its due.

They totally could, but then they'd be a jerk and a cheater and they'd probably get called out for it because it's kind of obvious when that is the case.

Exactly this. MvM maps can't fit into a rotation with the other maps in the contest, and they also take a much longer time to test. There's nothing stopping you from making an MvM map in ths 72 hours, but it won't get judged.

I always wondered, how do you know if someone actually put 72 hours into their work? Like they could have just made a map at their disposal and posted it right on the day its due.

There's nothing we can do to prevent this. However, they wont be able to get any playtesting (from us) until the 72 hour period starts, so they're just about on a level playing field regardless. Granted, there are other communities that run playtests on TF2 maps, but I'd like to think that if someone tried to cheat the system that way, that someone from that community would spill the beans.

Adding yet another item to the prize pool, if it's not too late:

It's never too late. Thanks!
