Hello. So I'm very new here. I'm not sure if I should try to enter this as I have very little knowledge outside of a few tutorials I've read, and Crash's video tutorials. However if I did, is there any form I have to fill out or anything, or do I just send in the map before the end of the time?

These are actually really good contests to learn from. Not only is it a good motivator to put a bunch of work in, but with everyone doing them at once, there's lots of people active to help out (the steam chat is a good place for that.)

Plus, no matter how your map turns out, worst case scenario you "wasted" a weekend of work. But even that is going to be a huge learning experience. It's a great way to pump out content.

Glassworks, Probed, Split, and Subzero were all 72 hr maps originally.

I'll be taking part this weekend. I'm only streaming for recording purposes but here is my stream link: http://www.twitch.tv/currentlyfapping

Good luck to everyone that participates this weekend!

So pumped for the contest tomorrow (alt weekend, deal with it). I figured I'd post some of the preparations I've taken for the contest.

I've made a design document for my map, which can be downloaded here. I started it during my cruise to Bermuda, so it better be good...

Speaking of the cruise, here's an album of images from the trip that I plan to use as reference for the contest.

I've made some custom assets of my own to be used alongside others; here's the thread to download them.

Finally, I made a thread a while back that compiled a checklist to help prepare for the contest. Here is that thread; the list is in the description (thanks to all of the contributors!).

As you might be able to tell, I've been working hard to make things run as smooth as possible. However if you'd like to see me run into problems that most likely could've been prevented, here's my Twitch channel (*hint hint nudge nudge*). My best wishes go out to you all!

And remember, in the words of the wise...

Hi, Leaf_It.

idolyn says if you want to take part, you just need to hand your map in at the end of the competition in the upload thread like everyone else. If you want to take part on one of the alternative weekends you should let him know (you can send him a PM on the forum), but he says he probably wouldn't mind if someone just handed in their work at the end of those periods. Obviously you can only choose one, so if you do wanna' go through with it, post your interest and your intended slot here in the thread, and if you are going to stream it. If you need any help with streaming stuff have a look through the thread or pop in the Steam chat room.

Sadly might be ducking out of this one. Cinema is understaffed because something like a third of the staff have recently found new (better) jobs so despite the fact I only do 2 days a week, I can't guarantee the time off, nor do I have time to switch to an alternate date (they're all weekends!)

Can I make a general request that people stop donating items to the prize pools of contests?
Who wants to win a contest then get flooded with virtual items? Not me.

The sledgehammer that changes hands is cool, beyond that it just seems like frustrating clutter, especially when the items are worth like 10p

1. Prize donations are welcomed in the OP
2. You aren't running the contest so it isn't really your place to make this request
3. No one is going to make you accept all of the prizes if you win

It absolutely is my place to make requests and I can make all the requests I like. That doesn't mean anyone has to comply. It wasn't a formal demand or a new rule for contests but a request from someone who sees bad prizes as more off putting than no prizes.

I've said before I think these events should be more personal challenge than judged contest.

Sure thing. Thanks!

There's enough donations of in-game items that we could actually set up an item pool that works like the game pool - first place gets first pick of 3 items, second place gets second pick of two items, etc. Unless anyone has any objections, that's how I'll handle the prize distribution. No there aren't. I'm very tired.

Might be cool to have a smaller prize for best new mapper? Either someone who has never submitted a map before, or is new to the 72h contest.
