I've recently been learning hammer (very simliar to an editor I used in the past; feels like at home) and what makes a good tf2 map; this should be a good way to put what I've learned to the test.
should be fun eitherway.

If you have a payload that starts going faster and heals faster based on roundtime, would it be accepted as a Non-standard cart?

Sure. However, you should try to make it somehow obvious that this is the case, maybe with a custom cart model or some other visual/audio cue. It shouldn't be some throwaway invisible effect that can easily be missed.

For the "Payload travels 256 units down" criteria, are we allowed to make the descent as so:

Or does this count as two separate 128 unit ramps?

Would a grinder like in mannhatten count as a death pit?
The grinders as they are in Mannhattan are functionally identical to a death pit, so it wouldn't count. If the grinders were used in a way that isn't functionally identical (say, mounted onto a wall, or approachable from both top and bottom), that would work.

does this count as two separate 128 unit ramps?
This is tricky. I'll allow it so long as the middle landing of the ramp doesn't connect to anything else in the layout. If you're unsure about what that means (to anyone reading this), ask.

would creating a new skin for an existing model (one available as custom content on tf2maps, with credit to and permission from the original creator) go against this contest's custom content rules?

Was the content released to the public before November 16th?
YES: You're free to use it with no restrictions.
NO: All creators of the content must be listed as collaborators on the map, counting towards the limit of 4 collaborators per map.

In the case that the original content was made before the deadline and your modifications are made after, nothing special needs to happen. The original creator did their work before the deadline and doesn't need to be listed as a collaborator. Your edits are after the deadline, meaning you need to be listed as a collaborator, but presumably you are already a collaborator on your own map.

Note that no custom content actually ever goes against the rules - you just have to make sure the total number of collaborators stays at or below 4.

I would submit what I got but, it's not done (in the sense that it's not playable yet)
I don't do the conventional system of blocking out either, but hopefully I can get it done while there's time for feedback

So... Are we suppose to keep our entries confidential until released? The rules don't state anything about that.
Of course not, you're allowed to post early versions of your map for testing on the server and feedback, or just to show off your progress so far. You're allowed to update the map as many times as needed before you submit it.

Posting in-development versions of your map is highly encouraged. Hiding your map until release will always turn out poorly unless your name is Blade x64.
