I've been in contests where people either backout or don't have a finished map by the deadline
it ends with me winning... Because no Contest when there's only 3 people left
and that's not fun.
It looks like the general contestants need more time thou.
Been trying to get my map tested for like, the past week now
I honestly don't know what else I can do with it until I get feedback on all 3 stages
extension, likely. Submitting it in it's current form would feel incomplete.
So, how goes the contest? Unfortunately, I have been to busy to participate in this one - house renos, moving into said house, more renos, quitting job, looking for job. Have been in house for a week now (or is it two?) and still haven't had the chance to get my gaming rig up and running, using old mac to communicate with the world lol
By semi-popular demand and by there only being one detailed submission so far, the contest has been extended by two weeks to February 25th. You can take this time for additional layout testing, artpassing, or polishing your finished map some more.
I have a question about the "Ledge 256 units in height " checklist item.
In my map (pl_descend) there are two ledges higher than 256 units which aren't usable at first, but after control point A is captured they can be used. Do they count for the checklist item?
The first ledge is in an elevator shaft that is blocked by the elevator, but the elevator is lowered to the bottom and then you can drop down into the shaft.
The second ledge is always accessible, but at first you would fall into a death pit (which doesn't count for the checklist item), but after the elevator is at the bottom, the death pit is blocked.
The hard deadline has hit and the contest is entering its second phase: Judging.
Due to the number of entries we have received, judging will be divided into two rounds - preliminary judging, where the public votes yes/no/no opinion on every map, and finalist judging, where the public and official judges will both do a more in-depth analysis of the maps that passed preliminary judging. (This will like be the top 10, although this number may grow if enough maps get overall positive votes.)
I will post a preliminary voting thread in a couple of hours once I've had some dinner and written it up. The default rotation on both US/EU servers will be set to the contest entries, and we will hold regular casual playtests (probably 3 to 4 a week). Preliminary voting will last around 3 weeks.
Finalist judging details are to be determined, although you can expect a similar format to the previous contest. I am currently looking for more judges. Currently, the panel consists of myself and 14bit. If you are interested in judging, post in this thread or send me a private message. (Being a judge will disqualify you from winning anything from the contest, obviously.)
Additional note: In the case of broken submissions, I am allowing entrants to revert their entry to an previous version of their map that is already uploaded to our servers.
I sent you a dm Ido, but I would be interested in helping to judge the contest. I'm just replying to this thread mainly in case you didn't see it or somethin.
Due to technical issues with the final submitted version of Bella, the official contest version is now B2, an older version of the map. I have updated the server map rotations as such.

That's the plan (Only submitted three votes)
Johnny_Russianboy (Submitted all Yes votes, effectively making it a null ballot)
Khuntza (Openly admitted to not playing the maps with people) (Note that, regardless of this score, the top 10 remains the same)
Aapelikaeki (Only submitted four votes)
Kill_the_Bug (Only submitted four votes)
Wyvern (Only submitted one vote)
To everyone who made it to the top 10, congratulations! Your maps will now be tested more thoroughly over the next month as both the public and a panel of judges make their decision on what maps will win the contest. I will post the finalist voting thread later. The panel of judges consists of:
Idolon
14Bit
Phi
Startacker!
Diva Dan
To everyone who did not make it to the top 10, better luck next time. On the plus side, you are now free to publish new updates to your maps and get working on the issues that preliminary voting inevitably showed with your maps.
quick thought, as someone who did not submit or vote on maps, if there's different amounts of yes and no votes for each map would it not be better to exclude the no-opinion and go by percentage of yes votes out of total yes and no votes so that maps that weren't as lucky in terms of playercount would get equal chance (ex: Josh would score higher than Snowthistle because 20/24 > 22/27)

I considered scoring maps this way, but it is not what I stated would happen at the beginning, and I felt it would not be right to change the criteria halfway through. Fortunately, this scoring method does not actually change what maps are in the top 10.
