I should really do a solo upload of my 2 af maps. Keep forgetting to do that. Also I can't think of anything for the contest yet. Usually I have a dozen ideas in my head before anything is announced.

PSA for everyone who's thinking about entering: I'll be running a few "technical rehearsals" when we get closer to April.

I ran a few early previews of my April Fools map last year to work out the bugs and tweak mechanics, and without the testing it would have been an infinitely worse map. In light of this, I'd like to help others out by giving people the chance to do some early testing a bit under-the-radar this year. You might not get full servers, but you'll at least know if your map crashes or you need to rework sections to make sure your jokes land.

Startacker and/or any other judges are banned from participating in these early tests, so that the maps can remain a surprise for them until judging starts.

Keep your eyes on the forums in a month or two; they'll be organized in their own thread with little fanfare on the Discord or Steam group to keep the maps mostly secret until the big day. I won't be sending out group-wide notifications either; I'll just casually note in chat when the testing begins, and will ping the authors of any submitted maps that are up for testing.

Broken how? Because areaportals that leak will cause a compile to fail. Instead you could have a perfectly functioning areaportal, set it to be a closed state so that it looks broken, but really isn't.

The TF2Maps Discord now has a channel specifically made for discussing April Fools content. You can freely talk about whatever you're doing for the contest, without fear of me seeing it. This is literal, I can't see the channel. Playtests should also get organized there. Have fun!

I always say I'm gonna participate in a contest, but I never follow through. I aim to finish a submission this time, and I will fully accept the title of "The One And True April Fool" if I don't.

In fact, so everyone can hold me to it, I'll tell you my scheme. I plan on doing a jokepass (artpass with jokes) of a collab map I worked on a few years ago. I need to get the okay from my former teammates, but still.

Well, just under two months away from the deadline, and it looks like I have to accept the title.

HOWEVER!

I am still going to finish the artpass. Since my deadline isn't April Fools anymore, it's not going to be very humorous artpass, but cutting a bulk of the jokes might help me get this done faster.

As a consolation, and since repeatedly remaking maps is my brand, I'll add a remake of Guise to my to-do list, with actual jokes this time.
