    Welcome to Microcontest 13: Mode Shifter

    Wow, these microcontests sure don't give you a lot of time, do they? Wouldn't it be easier to just start with a map you've made before, instead of starting completely from scratch every time?

    Today, your job is to take any previous map you've made (microcontest or not, previously released or not) and rework it into a completely different game mode. You can rework, remove, and add as much or as little geometry as you'd like; the only requirement is that the objective is different from the original map.

    Any mode swap works; Arena to Koth, Attack/Defense to Payload, Special Delivery to Player Destruction, MvM to 5cp, Payload Race to Capture the Flag, Medieval Mode to Territorial Control, Domination to Mannpower, Robot Destruction to PASS Time, or any other combination of all 16 official game modes*! If you're feeling really bold, you can even swap to and from unofficial modes, too.

    Please state the original mode and the new mode in your submission post!

    *There's technically also Training Mode, bringing the total to 17 official game modes, but nobody's crazy enough to try that. Right?

    Today's Bonus Punch:

    Turn a symmetrical map into an asymmetrical mode, or a asymmetrical map into a symmetrical mode. You don't have to change the geometry to account for the change, but I highly recommend it unless you're really interested at exploring asymmetrical KotH or Arena.

    Important Notes:

    Name your .vmf:
    <gamemode>_<yourname>_mc13_a1

    Please state the original mode and the new mode in your submission post!

    All game modes are allowed. Game modes that can run on standard 24-player servers will be tested, maps that require plugins or custom server settings will be reviewed but not tested. If there are any single-player Training maps, a recording of me playing it will be made available alongside the usual feedback to make up for a lack of demos. MvM maps will be tested separately.

    The Speedmapper punch only counts time working on geometry. Planning, compiling, bug fixing, lighting, logic, clipping, sealing, and other things that aren't physical playable spaces do not count towards the four hours.

    I really like this prompt, so I wanted to join in this time around, but I've been having a hell of a time staying motivated recently so I'm gonna back out.

    Originally wanted it to be 5CP instead but I felt that the walking distance between objectives would have ruined the flow if it was that gamemode.

    This new map's type is Player Destruction

    (I hope ya like it! My head probably isn't with some headache coming in the morning-- it was good fun I would definitely do again though!)

    This has some flaws as a pretty direct conversion, but it really feels a lot more fitting as a 5 control point symmetrical map honestly.

    There are a few glitches here and there - some that seem to be related to training mode that I wasn't able to fix. Also this is single player of course so don’t test it on the server.

    Originally a KOTH map turned 5cp. I redid everything pretty much and made it into a 3cp A/D map.
    I kept the same logical areas as the first version (train station, geothermal plant, rocket launchpad) but I redid almost all of the brushwork.
    It's all dev textures.
