I'm sure you have heard this a lot but these videos are excellent. Much thanks for taking the time and the effort to put put them together.

Good to know about using block bullets for stairs. Learned something new I guess.

Just a reminder for people without the ABS pack installed (really, what are you doing without it? Go get it, now): blockbullet brushes cut visleafs, something you don't want them to do since they're usually angled shapes giving VVIS nightmares, so func_detail them (again, not an issue with the ABS pack WHICH YOU SHOULD USE I MIGHT ADD).

Just a thing if you're also mapping for other Source games which do not get the glorious ABS resource pack (did I already mention how awesome it is and how you should get it ASAP).

Don't stairs cut visleaves as well due to it being just normal geometry if they're not turned into func_detail?

If they're normal brushes, yes. That's why we have func_detail in the first place.

My point it that no tool materials cut vis other than :hint: and apparently blockbullets as well. Since blockbullets is used on stairs and other things usually at an angle it'll make a visleaf mess. Angled visleafs are fine if they go from wall to wall or from ceiling to floor, but not if they stop in mid-air and don't do anything.

That's like going to a farm and telling cows not to poop in it.

I said that as that spelling of "more" reminds me of my youth, and every time I look back on it I wince and cringe.

The year later update, but totally worth it to watch update! Really got me thinking about placement values even though I haven't built a map in... a couple years!

You forgot to mention that you need texture lock :texlock: enabled to be able to resize patch overlays. (even though it's clearly enabled if you look closely)
