they dont even look like theyre doing anything

They could probably be stored up there or there to support a roof which we cant see from this picture (or possibly holding the ceiling from falling down who knows).

even if the vertical beams were holding something up, the crossbeams are doing nothing.

Viaduct pulls something similar (on the buildings opposite spawn) except there they're actually holding something up.

Here they look like they were just kinda slapped on the side of a building for the sake of it.

Even regular pillars would hold that up. Or even no beams at all.

Not that I think it's intended, but diagonal beams add rigidity to frames in strong wind, they prevent leaning to one side of the wooden frames.

Some actual geometry around the point.
Don't mind the environmental lightning, it's temporary.

@Up looks cool, like something out of portal :D

I was doing this for past two weeks or so. Question is do sewer pipe waterfalls make sense.

Abiding by the rules of Team Fortress 2 logic, yes.
There are at least 4 turbine-related props in-game, all of which are water turbines.

In 2fort, as we can see from the image below, there are an excessive amount of pipes on the ceiling. Most pipes transport water. Why would there need to be so many pipes?

Also, the turbine props I mentioned are often either featured near spawnrooms, or in the middle of the map.

From this, we can conclude that respawn is hydro-electrically powered, waterfalls coming from pipes make sence, and that Sans, from the video game 'Undertale', is Ness from 'Earthbound'.

Working on some sound editing and importing/packing workflow. This is the first time I've ever had a Hammer idea and executed it without fucking up at least once somehow. Music recorded, edited, imported into Source, Hammer'd, and compiled in one satisfying go.
