how about an ongoing contest that never ends where we all compete with ourselves to make great maps

I wouldn't mind a theme based contest, we've had a few British assets created over the years. An England themed map would be sweet. Any mode.

I second this.
Can Scotland be included?

Medieval contest could happen, but is unlikely, for a few reasons.

We do the contests as a way to promote and help develop a gamemode, a long with helping developers improve themselves, in how they think, make design choices, etc. Medieval would good because you would really need to think differently about design theory and about the game mode in order to make something fun.

But, I doubt anyone will participate, because people are too stuck in the "it's too bad and it can't be saved" mentality. And as such, it probably won't happen.
I still contend that medieval CTF could work. Probably better than vanilla, even.

Yea, I think that could work too, but then you'd have scouts trying to get the flag, and everyone zerging on the point. Something like CSF might work. But instead, it'd be more sideways moving of the flag, than going back farther.

if by work better you mean it turns into the simplest game ever that no one with a brain plays more than once.

What do you mean by simple? Too hard to defend? Or just not enough going on?

Or just not enough going on?
Thinking of every single possibility. Some snipers on the intel, with demoknights...
It won't be hard to defend, it will be more of a TFC-style CTF, which is "Let's break through that defense, get that intel, get out, and if we are lucky AND have time, kill some people". Not like TF2-style CTF, which is, "Let's enter the base, one on the sentry, one on the Heavy, I get the intel and we get out. In case someone is in our front, KILL HIM".
Just a prediction, though.

Why not just do a sequel to some of the most fun and exciting contests instead of trying to come up with something completely original?

Another Artpass contest (with a different map of course), or another single Control Point contest, for example, would be much fun than something strange and off kilter like CTF Medieval that not many people are going to be interested in to begin with (CTF AND Medieval? Heh).

not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but we could have a contest that involves the orphaned maps. The judges set aside maps that they deem would work for the contest and then have people sign up or have the judges give maps to people and they attempt to finish those maps. Something similar to how the artpass contest was but with multiple maps rather than the same map

What about special delivery? The game mode could really use some fresh and better maps.

SD is just koth with a flag, there's nothing special about it. We need an asymmetrical contest.

Contest would promote some innovation, and create new possibilities for the gamemode.

You mean the Asym contest we had 2 years ago? That wouldn't be anything interesting or special.
