No, not the Symm v Asymm one, because that one also had symmetrical maps. I find asymmetrical maps much more appealing since you can do so much more geometry-wise. Plus progress is awesome.

What about something like make a bad map good? If it's already been done, ignore this:

You would have and experienced map creator make a terrible map. Leave some of it with unfinished parts, orange textures, lacking detail, broken clipping, leaks, completely unbalanced etc.

From there contestants would be able to access feedback that play testers have given the god awful map. They download, and fix it. Maybe every map gets a single public play test. Not one match, but enough for people to give them feedback so far. They hand the final map in, it's played and inspected and the winner is the one who gets the highest overall points out of different sections (flow, clipping etc)

That would test different aspects of map making such as understanding the technical aspect of maps and the actual gameplay elements.

Maybe a contest where the focal point of the map is premade? Like, someone makes a large structure of some kind, and it's up to the mapper to incorporate it into their map in a predominant way. It could end up in a detail area behind a point, part of the gameplay geometry, or whatever the mapper decides to do with it.

The rules would be you can't change the overall structure, but you can modify it, as long as it retains it's look, and that it has to be a primary focal point of the map.

Or there could even be multiple structures you have to use.

I think it would be interesting to see how creatively everyone could use the same structure.

Like a set of pre-fab control points or something?

Maybe there are 3 points in a single stage map and all the points are in the same pre-fab and their distance between one another can not be modified etc.

The "vice versa" part doesn't make much sense. Isn't that just a needless restriction that makes the map more boring? Heck, what even counts as symmetry? Because obviously even "symmetrical" maps aren't precisely symmetrical brush-for-brush and prop-for-prop. (Except Turbine. And maybe Badlands.)

I'd like to see the 45 Degree Angle Contest - everything has to be 45 degrees except the floor and the sky - NO RIGHT ANGLES ALLOWED! That would be a challenge for sure.

After seeing an increase in Crates / shipping containers, I think we should have an all crates contest!

I have a serious idea: Follow the map.

Design a level that fits the map from the loading screen.

It is abstract enough to allow for creativity, but has enough content to make it directed.

not entirely sure what you mean by this ^^ are you talking about when you join the game and see the map shots on the bulliten board and then you want to follow it in game? Well depending on the complexity of the map you would also need to have pictures of in on walls in spawn rooms or something.

What would be the goal because it sounds interesting.
