CompCTF was a fun contest, I wish people wouldn't hate on CTF so much :c

Christ, lets just have a TC contest already

Actually, this is a good idea. I'm not going to suggest anything else until I see this happening.

What if we could maybe, just maybe make a TC map that makes sense to players so that they like the game-mode again?

With the amount of people that entered (and are actually participating in) the MvM contest, I don't think we'll be doing TC anytime soon :v

Yeah, we need another contest that is accessible enough for a bit more people to enter. It's not much of a contest when the competition is between 6 or so entries.

I've suggested a plethora of idea's for it. It has been chatted about.

The TF2M TC contest would be like releasing HL3. Everyone knows its coming, and is willing to play it no matter what stage they are in. Set the rewards high enough, time length long enough and provide all the testing needed (with proper feedback) and you'll be good to go.

Allowing for collabs of like 2-3 people would work too.

EDIT: Also, providing all the needed resources and documentation would up the amount of entries you get significantly. A lot of people don't do TC because of the lack of documentation. Make a GOOD prefab, a guide, video, whatever... and you'll get a lot more people (Also, advertise to the right places).

Yeah we should accept the collabs for this kind of contest, same for a cp_steel gamemode, those two gamemodes are really missing out, and i'm pretty sure that Valve will look at this.

Throw Special Delivery into there. No one has really touched it since it came out and, personally, I think it has more potential than Doomsday offers.

Maybe just have a contest for rare/difficult game modes. A lot of these modes could use some loving.

All problems solved:

No holds bar, anything goes, open mapping contest. Only restrictions, must be for TF2 and use TF2 Assets (no stealing, etc etc)

Judging on Execution, Technical, Gameplay, Aesthetics and Creativity? Collabs allowed.

Use to promote and advance development on any custom gametypes that haven't gotten a lot of views in the past, give people a chance to do whatever they want, and opens the contest up to just about anybody who can map.

It's also like the 5th or 6th anniversary of the site, and would be the 10th official contest. Just sayin'.

Would maps that try and tackle a more difficult game mode (TC, CTF, SD, ect.) be judged appropriately compared to standard/popular game modes?

Seems to me it'd be hard to gauge the difference of 'good' gameplay on a 5CP to 'good' gameplay on a TC. We'd need some pretty hard working judges.

For this type of contest, I don't think type of game mode would matter. You're judging on the overall gameplay. If a 5CP map plays really good for a 5CP map, and a TC map plays really good for a TC map, then they would score the same. Don't think of things on a "per-gamemode" stance. This is overall mapping ability. It's up to the designer to chose the best they can do, and do what they think is best. If they want to try a harder gamemode, then they can do it. If they want to try a "smaller" game mode, then so be it.

As for judges, they would need to know this too. They would (probably) need to judge based on a standard of current release maps, or make their best judgements. You would need somewhat experienced mappers as judges.

And yea, it would be tough, but who said this was ever easy?

The main problem with your idea is that you don't have any basic criteria, how can you compare a 5 CP symmetrical to a TC, a PL to a CP steel gametype, these don't have the same criteria about the work spent on it, neither the gameplay, optimisation, and even the detail. I'm sure if I create a TC, I will run out of brush and props and couldn't detail the map like a freak, while with a 5CP sym, I would have the opportunity to detail it how I want.

You know it would be frustrating for a guy who has created a TC to see that a 5CP sym, or even a 1 stage A/D, win the contest, just because it's more fun or the gameplay is "better", you know, if it's not equal, adjusting the gameplay on 6 stages and even actually create 6 stages wich are good, is waaayyyyyy more complicated than just creating one for a 1 stage A/D.

So please, just do a TC/CP_steel contest, and make it team up.

i would really like custom maps being a part of the tf2 community again via quickplay somehow + a contest that had a going official as a prize
