Can we have a height limit on signatures please?

I like tight, efficient signatures so even if its unofficial I'd support a push for smaller sigs

I was under the impression that signatures were only there for people visiting the site, and that actual users just hid them. All they do is advertise your own maps, and most people could care less about the quotes.
Plus half the maps that people had in their advertising bars probably went down the rabbit hole after the site migration.

I have literally never heard of signatures being interpreted that way

Not necessarily... they often include contact information and links to helpful threads too. (Or just fluff stuff, like dubtrack)

I still see that as information that people visiting would look for, or people new here. It seems like most of the offenses of overly large sig's are either advertising maps or directed at visiting people, that's just a generalization I'm making.

I don't see a reason to have a limit, if the option to 'read more' on larger signitires is in affect. I also believe that a case-by-case idea with people reporting the user for an exceedingly large and useless signiture to be used instead of a debate over a limit, with no affects..

As an example against block quotes, compare the size of your signature, with this one under my post Dave.

Exactly the same amount of stuff, but less than half the size. With a blockquote it increases the size of the post, without it's not even close to.

I'm all for case-by-case moderation of content, but I'd like to see the forum code itself enforce a size limit.

How is it that unchecking this is not the solution to this problem?

If you hate signatures so much, turn them off. Putting restrictions on the entire forum because a few people don't like it is just silly.

I sort of disagree with this - just because you can turn it off doesn't mean there shouldn't be restrictions. Just because you can block assholes in the Steam chat doesn't mean they should be allowed to be assholes, yknow?

Aren't signatures turned off by default?

Yes; in fact, this discussion is what brought about my knowledge of them.

Just because I hate the really dumb ones, doesn't mean I should disable the good ones as well, and a majority are non-intrusive

Edit: It may even be best to have a system where rather than disable all of them, you can just disable a particular user's.

Not sure how it happened, because it's never been the default to have them disabled but the majority of users do. I've set them all to enabled to try and fix that, feel free to re-disable them if you want, I'm only doing it as a one-time thing.

As for the other issues, I'm happy leaving it on a case-by-case basis. If you see someone with an obnoxiously large signature, feel free to report their post for it and we'll look into it.

I've also updated the signature conditions for normal non-vip users to:

But who's to say what is and is not intrusive? You could say majority rules here, but it's difficult to know if it is a majority or just a few grumpy people.

Look, I can understand if you or others perhaps find my signature intrusive or irritating. However, I personally like it and don't feel it's all that bad. Maybe that sounds a little uncaring, but as a site that thrives on the creativity of its users I would find it slightly hypocritical to restrict a part of our profile that is one of the few parts where we can express our creativity and show a bit of who we are.

I'm also not advocating allowing 1080p sized signatures either. I can understand having restraint. But that should be on the onus of the user, not the admins and mods. So feel free to flip a fit about the bright colors, obnoxiousness, or size of my signature, but I think it's misguided to ask for actual rules and restrictions.

My humble request @lemmines et al, is that if you're going for big signatures, keep them images so I can adblock them. I can't adblock a boxquote

You absolutely missed my point, I was saying users should be able to disable a particular user's themselves and have it blocked just for them, but as mentioned this is already possible with a good adblocker.

...Some good old passive-aggression going on with these "An error has occurred" sigs, guys.
