When did you start playing TF2?

In case anyone wanted to know...I bought the orange box a month before TF2 went Free-to-Play. I didn't even know what steam was at the time. I actually went out to the store and picked up one of the last copies of the orange box. Originally I didn't even care about TF2. I played all the half life games and portal a few times through before I even booted up TF2. The moment I heard the pyro mumbling while setting people on fire, I was hooked. I still remember when, too: September 11th at 3:00 PM, 2011.

It sits on my desk to remind me of what got me into PC gaming.

It's my first FPS game and the second "so good i cant stop playing" game. (The first one being minecraft)
I started playing TF2 as soon as I heard about it, which is January/February 2012. (Thanks merc. badge for reminding me!)

Orange Box preorder. Played HL, TFC, HL2 and was excited for EP2, TF2, and Portal. TF2 was one of The Trinity to be eternally delayed, always wanted, and never expected, along with Prey and Duke Nukem Forever. All three went through major changes along the way.

Christmas 2007. I was super excited for Portal at the time, and bought The Orange Box just for that one game. I only played TF2 because it came with. I didn't play the Half Life games at the time, since I was 12 and they scared me. I only got around to playing them within the last year or so.

Been playing since it's release. Lost my first steam account somewhere in 2009, got a new one in 2010 after months of trying to find the password.

My TF2 badge says I started August 24 2008, but I know I started before the Pyro update (which was June 19th 2008), because I remember him not being able to airblast.

Been on Steam since September 17th 2003. Everyone hated the idea of it originally.

I originally played it at a friend's house after he described the mechanics to me in class one day, and I remember coming home and drawing 2fort's layout in mspaint because I loved how there were incremental sections inwards towards the intel room, and how stylised it all was. The same friend then actually bought me The Orange Box for my birthday in 2008 - same day I got my steam account:

Guess I'm the late bloomer here. I played with a friend in the summer of 2011 but didn't get a computer that could run it until January of 2012, so that's when I started. It was my first real computer game and the only one these past almost 3 years I've ever really felt I will play forever.

I started playing in late 2009, after getting The Orange Box for Christmas (I played a TF2 free weekend during the War! update).

Sometime after it became free-to-play. Team Fortress is perhaps my most played game now. It's funny that orginally, I hated TF. It was mostly because of the community (including some of my friends) spamming TF-related stuff everywhere I went. That changed quickly after actually trying out the game.

If including the Xbox 360 version...it was around 2009 because my friend wanted me to try out half life 2, even if it meant playing the Orange Box on a console. But I knew I wanted the Steam version as soon as possible because the 360 version still had the first 6 maps, it had only stock weapons, and server host abuse was common.

By server host abuse, I mean locking out classes so only the camping team could be whatever they want while the team being camped were stuck as scouts only.

Now on Steam, I started TF2 right before the first Australian Christmas update came out near the end of 2010. That's when I finally got a computer that could run TF2 albeit on the lowest widescreen setting (1280x720p) to get a decent frame rate per second.

I'm a baby I started in October of 2011.. got an xbox about a month earlier and bought the orange box for it. Found out tf2 sucked on the xbox so I downloaded steam and started playing (ended up selling the xbox a few months later cause I never really played any other games hahaha). I remember the first server I played in was the spooky halloween Viaduct (Eyeaduct?). Played it on a crappy laptop at 15FPS with the laptop's trackpad for about a year and a half and then actually bought a decent computer and a mouse.

Dec 2007, right after I finished my last mapping project for Day of Defeat Source. I got the Orange Box mainly for Portal. I remember being really big on achievements and getting all of the original TF2 achievements. My thought then was "well, that was fun, but I don't think this could be my main game."

I was actually pretty bitter about Day of Defeat Source though, because I loved the original and the sequel seemed half baked and ignored by Valve. Seeing TF2 get that first Medic update really sold me on how the game had the potential to get better (which it did) and I just kind of settled in from there.

I bought the Orange Box only for Episode 2 at first, then I made portal in 2 evening and started playing TF2. At first, I didn't like it but I found a cool french server at the beginning of 2008 with a good community and then I became addicted for 4 years ! (It's still my most played game today)

February 2008, I bought the Orange box for HL2 ep2 only, then some time after I tried TF2, and now I've wasted 3000 hours of my life on it :<
