An update to Team Fortress 2 has been released. The update will be applied automatically when you restart Team Fortress 2. The major changes include:
    • Internal system changes in preparation for a future update.
    • Fixed erroneously being warned that leaving a bootcamp match will result in an abandon penalty.
    • Fixed servers running tf_mm_strict 2 mis-handling bootcamp matches.
    • Fixed servers running arena mode constantly entering and exiting the pre-round state while empty.
    • Fixed servers failing to recover properly from crashing while running a bootcamp match.

    Read on the TF2 Blog...

With Valve working and releasing and update on Saturday, as well as doing what they describe as the final stress test makes me think the big update is coming very soon, probably sometime next week.

Saw this on the TF2 subreddit:

So I'm assuming that's where Yrr is getting her information, just wanted to point out "in the coming days."

    Very, very soon.

    Edit: Found a proper link.

I can't imagine what kind of update would necessitate changing things internally before it even comes out. Is it related to the stress test somehow? Like, they're doing it ahead of time to get metrics on whether the new system actually has the intended effects?

thats pretty likely, changes to the server system need to be tested to see what they can handle before release

they put out some passes but that didnt bring in the numbers they wanted so its stress test 'til release

Well Stress Test #10, which was on Thursday, was to test getting a new player to join before the round started:

There was someone on the TF2 subreddit earlier that day or the day before who posted screenshots of Eric Smith in a comp matchmaking game with them and he said he was testing the same thing, I'm assuming most of these updates have to do with getting that system working though they also probably have some general fixes for matchmaking as well.

Honestly I think it's a very good thing they are fully testing out matchmaking and getting it working right before shipping the update, my guess is that a lot of new players as well as some old players who haven't played TF2 in a long time are going to check out the comp matchmaking and it's important that it has a good first impression on them. We don't want a repeat of the Manniversary update that probably drove a lot of people away from the game.

What happened in the Manniversary Update that drove people away? It's been too long to remember.

It caused the game to crash all the time for people and it took them months to fix it.

I say it now. MM will be relesed, Pass time will be released, there will be a new weapon. Done. If that is added my wish will be true.

Please don't get so overhyped about the update. Overhyping is exactly what ruins the whole thing. (See EOTL)
You can't just say that this is gonna happen out of blue, without linking any source of evidence.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about PASS Time being released, just a new map incoming (as well as an exploit patch for Warehouse, courtesy of a Delfy video). It wouldn't be unthinkable given how long it's been since the last PASS Time patch, but it would just make for really weird timing to release it along with competitive matchmaking, since it's so tonally different. That said, Valve did release Mannpower alongside with Scream Fortress last year for whatever reason, so it's not entirely out of the question, but I still don't think we ought to go into this update expecting the release of PASS Time.

Well B4nny has confirmed that Matchmaking is coming in this update so we know that's 100% going to happen (and probably why this update is being delayed since they have been pushing updates to matchmaking and doing the stress tests).
As for Passtime, they have a new map coming. I've read that during a game day with the devs they said it's moving out of beta in this update though I can't 100% confirm that. At the very least it looks like we'll be getting the new passtime map District in this update.

Edit: I might be wrong about the Passtime development test thing, I can't find anything about that so I can't remember why I thought that. The devs did post screenshots of the new map District a few weeks ago so it seems likely we'll at least get that in the update.

I am not saying that this is not going to happen. I am saying that overhyping is not a good thing to do.

We have evidence about Matchmaking & Passtime map.
We don't have any evidence about the gameplay changes of Passtime, nor about new weapons.

    EDIT:
Okay nevermind. (My Internet didn't let me post faster!)

I wonder if we'll see an influx of 5cp maps here following the matchmaking update

(Not that that's a bad thing, I'll take a bunch of 5cp maps over a bunch of koth maps)
