If anyone is interested in judging the entries blind, I have put together a Zip file of the contest entries with the names replaced with a random number.
Also includes an Excel spreadsheet with the author's names in a hidden column
You can take a look at it here, if you want

I, for one, will be judging this way

How did you change these names? Just renaming *.BSPs screws them up ingame AFAIK.

Yea if you do it that way, things such as cubemaps will be missing.

It's not worth the loss of some of the things you're judging to anonymise them.

how about you make a script instead?

Like you make a mapcontest.cfg which contains:
alias entry1 "map room2016_x"
alias entry2 "map room 2016_y"
etc.

Then everyone just type into console:
execute mapcontest
entry1

and it loads the first map

But Jone's method is far better because my map has no rendered cubemaps, so that would rig all other entrys

While most of the maps worked fine I noticed several maps running fullbright. Exactol's entry, which especially relies on lighting, was not working
None of the maps that were broken I would have voted for anyway, but I would advise caution

I specifically noticed Lotso's entry was fullbright only in LDR. Up to you whether you judge that as a flaw.

Worth noting: fullbright does not turn off after changing map. If you view one map in fullbright, it switches to mat_fullbright 1 and stays there until you turn it off or reload the game. That can make other maps appear fullbright when they aren't.

During one of the April Fools imps we had this year (I think the very first one in fact) we had a couple of maps that had no lighting, but upon map change the server flipped mat_fullbright to 0 and everyone had proper lighting again. Not sure if that only applies to dedicated servers but it's worth noting.

Maybe he compiled it in HDR only so LDR user have to switch and see the map with better lighting and bloom. ^^

Anyway, I think there should be a rule in the future so that all entries have to be compiled in either HDR only or in both

99% sure mine is compiled for both. Is it possible you just looked at a fullbright map before mine?

Yes, I did in fact go from Lotso's straight to yours. After downloading the map and changing the name again the lighting worked

Well, if you went to mine then you've got another problem because I didn't enter - but good to see you fixed it.

After downloading the map and changing the name again the lighting worked

Can you confirm to me what you mean by this, please? I assume i'm just misunderstanding, but changing the map name or redownloading it are both things you shouldn't need to do.

I'm sorry, let me start over

Monday morning I downloaded all the maps, changed their names, and put them in a zip file
Monday afternoon I copied all the renamed maps into my tf/downloads/maps folder and went through them
Most of the maps worked perfectly until I got to Lotso's, which was fullbright as discussed. The next two maps, Exactol and Void, were also fullbright, so I loaded up a map I ran earlier that worked, it worked fine as well. Confused, I quit TF2, and copied the renamed Exactol and Void BSPs from the zip file I made monday morning back into tf/downloads/maps and ran them again, this time they worked.

The takeaway is this:
Exactol's map is working fine
Running Lotso's map may cause other maps to be fullbright

Most of the maps seemed to work fine, but just to be safe, I will run through them again with their correct names before voting

Let's just give prizes to people we all know will win: Ido, eArkham and Freyja Void. So nobody will have to worry about HDR/LDR, map renaming and other weird problems.

Ah, okay: the maps worked the second time round because you reloaded tf2, not because of renaming them. I'm not sure why loading the earlier map worked.
