Hope no-one minds if I bump this. Only it seems like this thread is sailing over the heads of about 99% of the people here, despite it being stickied and everything, and it's pretty important for people to know.. (an update to the first post might be handy too, cos it's pretty outdated and has some broken links)

It'd be nice if new registrants automatically got some sort of introductory message that linked them to the most important newbie guides and FAQs.

There is, actually! This is what is sent to anyone who joins:

Hi <user>,

Welcome to TF2Maps! We're glad you decided to join us, and we hope you stick around and become a valued member of our community. Make sure you pop on over to the Introductions forum and let everyone know a bit about yourself.

If you're just getting started with mapping for TF2, head on over and watch Crash's How to make TF2 Maps video series. While you're learning, or even if you're a seasoned master Egan's Mapping resource links provide an invaluable plethora of knowledge.

If you're stuck with a mapping problem, post up a thread in the Mapping Questions forum. If you're having problems compiling your map, be sure to include a copy of your compile log surrounded in
...
tags.

When your first map is done, head over to the Downloads Section and hit the "Add Download" button at the top right to upload it to our site and share it with the community! We run regular "impromptu events" from our Steam group chat, or you can submit your map to one of our gamedays.

If you have any other questions feel free to reply to this message and we'll do our best to help.

Regards,
- The Senior Staff Team

I don't think that many people read it actually. Maybe urge them to read or make the message shorter?

If you're stuck with a mapping problem, post up a thread in the Mapping Questions forum. If you're having problems compiling your map, copy and paste it into the Interlopers compile log error checker, a super useful tool that automatically scans your compile log on errors which saves you a ton of time since it instantly gives you any errors that might be present in your compile log. If the error checker didn't give any errors yet you still encounter problems, or if you're still unsure about something in your compile log, be sure to include a copy of your compile log surrounded in
...
tags.

Mind if we expand it a bit with a link to the Interlopers error checker (highlighted in bold)? We all use it all the time when encountering errors yet we never mention it anywhere, not until a user posted his/her compile log in a thread and we point the error checker out to him/her.
