i know, im afraid i cannot into texturing at the moment. cant seem to get the style of the tf2 textures down, its more than just a square-shaped brush

There are photoshop paint brushes you can download which will give you the desires results, especially if you use them with 40% opacity. I believe that's what Rexy has always done. Even some of the default PS brushes are sufficient.

Deviantart has some great brushes to download and some concept artist share their brushes in their portfolio pages.

cool, ill give that a try. ive roped in a friend to help me with an ambient occlusion layer too
