Wheelhouse - A small KOTH map around a watermill.

This is my first attempt at mapping for TF2, so I'm starting simple with a fairly small KOTH map.

Really looking for feedback on what I'm doing wrong and what I'm doing right.

From the screenshots, this looks really well put together for a first map! Well done! The mid point area does look really cluttered, though. And I am sure some layout issues could be found during a playtest ;) It looks like you compiled with HDR--don't bother for alphas, as it just complicates the release process and often makes dev textures look way too bright.

You should join the Steam chat right now, if you can--they've been talking about starting an impromptu test up soon, you could get it tested pretty quick!

I'm currently making a map called koth_wheelhouse since it's based around a water wheel; i procrastinated and was about to release it later this week

what am I supposed to call it now?


You dont even have a wheel in your map :mad: (judging by screens)

The backup name was wheelhaus, but yours is koth too... damn it.

There's a placeholder brush one next to the point.

I'm thinking I might make it rotate at a later point, so that you cant camp above the point.

I'd take any of your rejected names, since "abandoned riverway" just isn't that catchy

Deer furry best furry

Map looks a little cluttered prop-wise around mid but that should be able to be worked with pretty easily. Looking forward to playing it.

  • Opened up point to outside area
  • Removed some of the interior clutter
  • Widened river and provided easier exit possibilities
  • Finally got the wheel to spin (It'll kill you if it hits you tho)
  • Fixed some clipping issues
  • Nobuilt the riverbed

i mean it was literally my first attempt at tf2 mapping i didn't understand anything about designing a level for it

its underscaled and the concept itself is flawed enough that i'd need to start the layout over from scratch, and the gimmick isn't even a good idea


but it lives on in an overlay on bagel :)

All maps, including maps that are literally just a box with spawns and a point, have potential?

With love and care put into them? yes. As long as it's fun and people like to play it.

Anyway, ultimately it's up to the map maker if they want to continue a project or scrap it. Not much point trying to convince someone to continue something they abandoned many months ago literally over a year ago
