Spy vs Engi Update

Pretty sure it was cancelled for Gun Mettle.
But if it still was happening, I would probably expect it to run similarly to the "WAR!" update.

Yeah spy vs engi is hinted at in gun mettle, The nerfs and buffs to spy and engi were to hint and hype for the update.

Was it ever officially confirmed? It feels like someone just said on reddit "I wonder if there'll be a Spy vs Engie update", and over time that got transformed into "SPY VS ENGIE UPDATE IS HAPPENING SOON YOU GUYS" with no proof whatsoever to back up their claims, as reddit hype tends to do.
I know those two classes had some of their base stats changed, but I'm almost certain it was just coincidence and was only done in the interest of balance.

Than why not do the same to ALL classes? Certain weapons were balanced to classes, but that wasnt as game changing as the spy and engi changes. It may just be speculation, but it has some pretty good ground now after gun mettle.
Truw, but i hope your wrong and spy vs engi is a real update.
But valve did say they are working on the next major update that would include alot of ground breaking things. Perhaps that will be spy vs engi. Also valve is going to milk spy vs engi and wouldnt just nerf and buff weps and call it s class v class update.

I hope so, but than again if it means waiting a few more months, id wait for a quality update rather than a rushed one. But than again, all valve has to do is finish up things to complete this planned update. MM for one thing, seems like its mostly done and is ready, Mann Power already seems balanced, ish, and would only need a new map and maybe a few new powerups. Its obviosly going to have a campaign, but there are loads of comm. skins at the ready for valve, so it shouldnt be too long before we see spies and engis in our skybox and "WE ARE IN THE BEAM" death of meme jokes as the update gets hyped.

As someone who mainly plays engi I got to say I am kinda looking forward to the update. If it's real of course.
But MM is going to be epic for most tf2 players.

Well yeah but I am for the paywall because it separates the noobs from the completives.
Especialy then its going to be welcomed.
Many players hate all the free players that are clueless. Even players with a long playtime but still at a low skill dont like the gibusvision spam of players. A pay barrier allows them to avoid those, yet still get put on an equal level of gameplay.
There is a reason that a paid third party MM service will be better than an in-game 99% of the time, with third party services cheaters and smurfs are clamped down on by humans.
For example, even though you have to pay to play CSGO, and you have to play Casual a bunch to play Competitive, almost 1/2 of my matches have a smurf in them, and each time you queue you are just begging you are the one with the smurf.
This will be fucking cancer in TF2 no matter what they do, because the game is Free To Play. Even if they make you pay, it will end up just like CS:GO because the end product is the same, very small amounts of human inspection of players, just an automated system like VAC and a report system that seems to be a Simpsons-style tube.
Then come to something like ESEA, heavily moderated playerbase, if someone is reported with evidence they are INVESTIGATED and then permabanned from the paid service if found to be guilty of smurfing/cheating. An in-game MM just can't do this, no serious players will use it and it will fall out of favor, ridden with LMAObox cheaters who just installed the game / met the requirements to start.
I do have my hopes up though, as much as it seems like I don't. Valve have overcome the impossible in the past, lets see them do it again..
