i frickin love the concept behind this, and a bunch of the little aesthetics are good, but it still feels pretty rough around the edges

i agree, thats why its in thousands of tiny pieces right now. i'm deleting bits and moving bits around, i'm searching on how to simplify it more. i've been sketching lil thumbnails like that one above to just explore ideas. mash a couple of the things i want to see together and see what sort of forms i get, what sort of tf2 thoughts do they generate, etc... mostly just thinking exercises for me as i figure out what i'm looking for.

trying to? nope.

It's already done ;) if you look at the skyrim and stuntman couple, on the right center and then again back in the top left... you can see that this is actually a repeating pile already

See, I did notice the repeats, but then I noticed that they weren't quite exactly the same and weren't on the same horizontal or vertical level as each other. Didn't realize it was because you were showing the actual 3D pile and that was the parallaxing.

Been busy with the International as its here in town. I live a few blocks from the arena in fact, so I've spent the week watching Dota in uncomfortable seating.

I showed some of the workshop folks i hung out with the video and they all had no idea the level of fuckery that we can get away with in TF2 compared to them. They make models and export rigged fbx's for the most part. no compiling, no qc files... cheaters.

btw just between you and me, the "new internal pipeline does not use qc files". However will we see that over on this side of the fence? No one could guess.
