Can confirm. I am logged in right now and I am seeing an ad from Newegg based on my recent shopping history
Getting ads on mobile, none on PC. I'm not that against it though, as long as they're a part of what helps the site live, but that's a bit strange.
It's not a deliberate decision to show them to people who wouldn't normally see them - it seems to be some sort of bug. DRP is looking into it. Apologies for the inconvenience!
As long as they don't get obnoxious or interfere with us being able to use the site, I'd say leave them and earn some more money for running the site. Simple banner ads are generally harmless.
Advertising is a cancerous relic of the last century. I'd rather we not support it any more than necessary, and instead, focus on positive support of the site, such as donations and subscriptions.
as long if its a simple ad and wont get in the way of me trying to use the site. I will be fine with it. Adblock 2016.
Well, one just caused Firefox to crash for me, so I'd say they're interfering with us being able to use the site. Actually, maybe the admins should start being more transparent about how much it costs to keep this site up and running and how much more donation money it would take to justify removing banner ads altogether, even for guests, as a way of encouraging people to chip in more. Like how Wikipedia runs those annual fundraising campaigns. Also, encouraging item creators to allocate more of their discretionary dividends (I don't know what it's called; it's that other 25% of the sales money that doesn't go to you or Valve but to a third party of your choosing) to the site.
Workshop sponsors, I believe is what you do if you support TF2M. You can set the % of your items/maps revenue to go to them. Creators themselves receive royalties.
Maybe in perfect world. Why would anyone turn them on? Related to this topic, few weeks ago I decided to disable Adblock by default because ads are most of the time the only way sites/video makers make money. If I visit sites with annoying amount of ads, I don't visit that again or add it to blacklist. E: Very few would enable
