We all love the map list, but joining the mappers chat JUST to add a map is kinda spammy and feels rude. The map list is just a google sheet, correct? Can we not add a submit feature on the site? Maybe on the homepage, above statuses, could be a widget that allows the same functionality. Name, link, notes, then a big submit button.

I agree. Seeing people join chat just to !addmap is a little bit heartbreaking.

This has been an idea on the table for a while. The main reason it hasn't happened yet is actually making the thing - if it integrates with the website and our servers, then whoever is making the service needs access to a lot of things that we'd prefer not to give to anyone who has a "stake" in the community. In other words, we need a person who is either already a staff member, or someone who isn't already a part of the community (and will remain impartial). As it turns out, finding that person is pretty difficult.

That may be an oversimplification of the issue, but that's more or less how I understand it myself. Bringing an established member of the community onto staff for their services rather than than their "staff-ness" (for lack of a better word) isn't really on or off the table yet - we'd need to talk about it internally first.

EDIT: It would be possible to make a web interface for the bot, isolate it from the website/servers, and embed said interface in the website. If Fantasmos wants to add that as a feature, I think we'd be down to party.

I'll note that you can send the bot maps by PM.

Unless he is on your friend list and accepted you, you still have to join the chat to be able to send a pm to the bot.

*edit: I might have to correct myself, gimme a few minutes.

*edit²: So, if you send a friend request to the bot or enter the chat, you can send messages until either the bot goes offline for a second or you go offline and back online again. You don't have to be in the chat to send messages until one of those things happens.

You can message the bot without friending it. I've done it before, and can still do it.

Sometimes I think the bot's location in steamchat is an issue

It would probably be easier if there were a site page input and vbot just took info from there

Yes, but you still have to join the group chat before you can see that he is online and thus message it. I'm just saying that it won't stop you from having to open chat.
