Personally I'd be very happy with your proposed change, Frozen. It would greatly increase the chances I'll end up entering this contest. However, I'm also behind what Booj said, because even more options can only be a good thing, and I don't see this being harmful to the narrative at all.

This new rule is how I had interpreted the previous one, because it's just immensely stupid to have an A/D map where blu are trying to destroy X, only to have Red destroy X when the time runs out. It's so stupid I had assumed you couldn't possibly mean it in that way.

The "finale" or "winning objective" in A/D like payload is blu winning, not red winning. It never made any sense to me that red winning should fire the finale.

I guess if you weren't going to change the rule, I'd unwittingly fall foul of it.

well you know... there can be different finales for both teams, say for example, blu wins, mothership gets bombed, red wins, mothership crashes into a blu building.

that's of course twice the amount of work but you know... it can make sense, sorta
I just wish the finale could be something other than the mothership's destruction... lazers anyone?

To me the change of making the attacking team blow up the ship is a good one but i would make it flexible to allow either side to make it blow up. Still, its a major improvement as it gives room on options on how you make the map feel. It can be ship vs ship, and attack the ship. Only defend the ship isnt possible, but that can actualy be a design decision since the idea probably was that you were invaded in the first place.

Note though, specificly repeat the rule for mvm as the current one is the inverted situation and actualy can harm those that already had the idea on the old one. I ask this because if the idea is that you were to stop the invaders this one would be the only exception of forcing red to destroy it instead of blue, and in your new version this actualy isnt possible now.

I had remarked that, per Booj's suggestion, making it so that either Blu (or bots), Red, or both teams (up to the author!) would blow up the UFO in A/D gamemodes would open up many possibilities. This rule change does not affect Symmetrical gamemodes. The rule change also doesn't affect people who are following the current rule, as it does not rule out BOTH teams blowing up the Mothership, regardless of gamemode. I apologize if that was unclear, I'll make sure to make it clearer if this rule is changed.

I'm not sure if that clarifies things, or if I am missing something. I plan to make a final decision on it later tonight.

Ah ok, so that already was ment as new rule. I thought it was a possible option as suggestion but not yet set as being 'the' new rule. That means my post basicly became useless, but at least it made it clear.

So on mvm the bots dropping the bomb is also valid similar to a succesfull defend :)

Alright, so, it sounds like the new Mothership rule is getting positive reviews. I'll be making the final decision on that tonight.

In other news, I'd like for everyone's opinion on this next rule proposal:

Changing this rule:
Must be any official game mode. Medieval Mode, however, is not allowed.

to this:
Can be ANY game mode. Medieval Mode, however, is not allowed. (Sorry!)

What changed?
The official game mode rule had confused a lot of people into thinking that they couldn't use things like Low-gravity, Teleportations, moving cows, etc. This is not the case and we really encourage you guys to put those into your maps in a logically designed way. We don't want to force those things onto you (Unless you guys want it) in the rules, but if you can make a map where these types of things work, go for it. That the type of creativity that we're looking for. EDIT: This does mean that non-official gamemodes are allowed. Invasion CTF, Dual KotH, etc would be allowed. (no medieval mode)

What Else?
If this change does go into play, I will push the deadline for the contest back 2 weeks to compensate for the frustration and any changes that you guys might have to make.


Again, this is a PROPOSED Rule change that is not yet official. Please, let me know what you think. Also, I apologize for the rule changes, you guys pointed stuff out and wanted to see how things changed and how things turned out. I've listened, we've listened, and we're going to start now with this all. Thanks for being awesome.

Well, this new change also allows for dual-koth, invasion CTF (we really dropped the ball on that one), Defusal, 3 CPSym, etc. Creativity floodgates should be very much open, if this rule opens up. (But with it, also comes the challenge of making it *work*)
You should never be afraid to challenge people.

This bullshit.

Medievil mode is just a theme (i feel, with my two cents) something that completely clashes with the whole UFO Alien thing. All the other gamemodes don't have themes to them and can be adapted into any setting they want, but medieval is rather restricted to the castle theme, and that clashes in the respect of old/notech with futuristic/newtech

Besides, how are you gonna blow up a UFO in medieval times?

Any team must blow up the alien mothership in Attack/Defend gamemodes. In symmetrical gamemodes, the winning team must blow up the mothership. How it is destroyed it up to you, but we've heard Bombs, lasers, rockets and ray guns are effective. (for UFO Assets, see below)
