Good portal 2 vibe but I want to point out that trees dont grow in dark. You need to give it a reliable lightsource for it to grow that high.

Decided to 'reboot' my pl_desertmap because of my major sloppy brushwork and cramped areas; Rebuilding the map from the ground up with larger areas and displacements in mind. Very happy so far!

Not sure the leaf mess and general uneditableness you're gonna have here is worth not going for making it displacements both inside and outside, with an areaportal going upwards to cull visibility/horizontal hint.

It does not cause that much of a mess in the leafs. Not sure what you mean by making it displacements since both displacements and func_details (the whole top of the building is func_detailed) act the same way with skybox brushes (when even a tiny part of a face is visible the whole face is rendered.)

I had to do this crazy skybox because this was the only way to have parts of the visible faces on each side of the skybox

Pretty sure you're thinking of func_brush, not func_detail.

I believe that after leaf calculations, func_detail faces are treated just like world ones, and world faces do get cut.
