or, you can make a koth version of that map
Allmost all arena maps seem far more popular as koth. Just because koth itself is more popular.

The only exceptions is when the map doesnt have any decent gameplay as koth version like offblast, watchtower, ravine and lumberyard. All these maps have the problem that they are actualy too small to feature a full koth game (unless you want constant spawn killing to happen). Nucleus with its similar building way of being a short map still provides multiple levels and paths for battle and is quite large on its own (although only the ring is fully used).

Personally I think Sawmill has issues as a KOTH map too because they never bothered to color-code the bases. In arena using all neutral colors is fine because nobody needs to return to their base in the first place. (And don't even get me started on the CTF version.)

Wouldnt a skybox be better as in that case you can give vvis alot less to do. Now its 1 huge outside area which gets rendered most of the time. It could be partialy solved by using visclusters, but that is a nasty solution to me.

Still, i like how the mountain looks.

Don't worry aly, you will want to edit them yourself after a [very long] while. Bonus points for making them modular.:)

What do you guys think of a square-shaped pagoda. They were far, far more common in japan (I can barely find a reference for an ocatgonal one!, in fact there was pretty much only one major one and it was buddhist), it barely changes the layout, and is far far far far far more easier to manage in hammer.

I think it looks too big and bulky now, less visually interesting than the round or octagonal version.

needs fewer layers if you do that.

like, it needs three layers that are more spaced out.

these floors are pretty dense and numerous.

EDIT: After much debating and interal debating I decided to go with the square, it's far easier to find reference for, It's a thousand times easier to manage in hammer and doesn't require any more models to be made. I also think it looks nicer.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Heaven

Just as 1 example (and also one of the most important buildings in china). However, the circle shape isnt recommended as those are references. The circle means heaven, a square means earth. (what you learn on a holiday)

Go for a square shape. Much more common to see, and much better for hammer.
