Ok, so I actually downloaded pl_beerbowl, to see what you were talking about, and it's a really cool map, completely unrelated to my map plans...
Does this look better (more drill-like) ?

Yep. It looks far more appropriate being thicker. Makes moving earth (or people's innards I suppose) more feasible by the design.
