Before today—literally the moment before you started reading this sentence—the only way you could enjoy matchmaking on your computer was through dating sites. That got us thinking. What if you took the promise of dating site matchmaking, and, instead of getting matched up based on Snapchat's face-reshaping filters and lies about how much you love hiking, it was based on your actual real-face dating performance?

That's when it hit us: Take matchmaking and apply it to video games.

"But what about...?" you say, and we cut you off mid-sentence, gently place our fingers on your lips and whisper: Matchmaking has never existed in video games before.

But now it does! Click to find out how Matchmaking is going to change the way you play TF2 in the upcoming Meet Your Match Update!

Congrats on getting in Phi. I think we all saw it coming when we heard a competitive update was coming and sinshine was in the game... but either way I can't wait to play some sunshine in matchmaking!

Also new quickplay sounds weird.

So, from the FAQ: http://www.teamfortress.com/meetyourmatch/faq/

  • 6v6
  • no class or weapon restrictions
  • no random criticals
  • no team changes
  • fixed shotgun spreads
  • for symmetrical Control Point maps, best-of-3 or best-of-5 (higher ranks only)
  • for Attack/Defense maps, stopwatch mode (fastest attacking team wins)
Now, putting any upcoming weapon balancing aside, the "no class or weapon restrictions" worries me. From the beta experience I have with MM this means that a "3 Quickfix Medics and 3 Crit-a-Cola Scouts" situation will happen more often than not. Good luck having a single chance against mini-crit-spamming-at-mach-10 Scouts who get overhealed by a Medic who's keeping up with them.

Good to see that Quickplay is getting an upgrade though. And of course congrats to the folks behind Sunshine, Metalworks and Swiftwater. Wonder how they'll play in pubs. You know. 4 Engineers on last.

Also new quickplay sounds weird.

I just hope it no longer decides for me that my best TF2 experience is on a 400 ping server in Dubai.

Finally! I'm glad they brought casual quickplay to the game. But i wonder if all valve servers will be replaced with this and the only pubs left would be on community servers

Casual quickplay seems like a massive improvement over the current system, but I'm curious about what this means for joining specific maps.

Also, it doesn't make community servers any less dead.

This:

At 0:15 in the video, Engi is rewinding the tape.

I believe the music is the Olympics theme, which is fitting because this is competitive.
I know where it is from, just wanted to know what the original is. So, thanks Nick.

On topic again, I hope this update brings with it the start of way more frequent weapon balancing rounds and instead of 2 huge ones per year we'll have smaller ones focussing on specific classes and/or weapons.
