1 month extension would be great for maps that are almost there, but wouldnt be ready in time.
Also I made the same argument with the same points and got shot down immediately...
lately (in the last few years) a lot of people seem to be of opinion "if you cant make a map in three months (or can but arent willing to outright put everything else on hold) well screw you contests aint for you as long as i can do it i dont give a fuck about anyone else"

meanwhile submission counts are underwhelming compared to five month contests and every contest has extension talks

but nooooo, thats not a reason to reevaluate contest lengths at all. who needs accessibility if i can use deadlines to eliminate competition

Sarcasm sure is a great way to get us to want to listen to your side of things!

I'm not particularly rallying for an extension (alloy is almost beta 3...) but if one did happen I'd probably be able to finish some version of Remnant for the contest. That might be cool.

This is just a general feedback for some of the maps in the contest, and since it's somewhat related to the issue of an extension, I'd like to mention it here for all the contestants.

One thing I've noticed about the maps I've played so far in gamedays and impromptus (which may or may not be a good representation of the entries) is people adding weirdly placed doors that open and close as points are captured. They appear to be solely for the purpose of making the map dynamic.

At best, this is not very inspiried or arguably lazy... at worst though, you'll have lots of doors with no indication that they won't open when you approach, in places that obstruct the gameflow rather than enhance it. I've seen lots of people getting confused during tests by doors like this. I'm not naming names, but many maps I've been on have been guilty of this.

It's important that your routes to and from points is intuitive, that it flows for all classes. When placing your doors like this, ideally these should be opening up shortcuts or changing the advantage/disadvantage situation between the teams.

So if this contest does get an extension, please do use some of that time to analyze how you're using your doors. Watch the demos from the gamedays, and make sure you don't have doors there just for the sake of having them. :)

Too many doors can lead to confusion and thats icky.

There will be news about getting an extension or not later today.

From here on, Frozen will be taking over the contest primarily and I'll just be helping out in the back (as I have way more on my plate than I was expecting at the minute and can't keep up with it so easily), though don't hesitate to ask me questions still, but Frozen will now be top dog on this. As a side note, I'll be home for the next 2 and a half-ish weeks starting this Friday so I'll be more than willing to run plenty of imps for this (and regular ones) again.

There will also now be an extra month extension, so the contest is now running until February 2nd.

Just a slight clarification on the rules for custom content:
Custom content is allowed but needs to be made publicly available at least one week before the submission deadline if it isn't already.

Changed to:

Custom content is allowed but needs to be made publicly available if not made by you by at least one week before the submission deadline. If you made the content yourself you do not need to release it.

The original text was taken from the MvA contest rulings, but the MvA contest rulings were themselves clarified on page 12 - http://tf2maps.net/posts/312506/.

Sorry for any possible confusion.

I’m going to opt out of the contest. I've been working on my submission almost nonstop (how unhealthy of me >< ) since September, and I want to move on to making new maps and maybe join the 72 hour jam. I learned a bunch about Hammer and balancing a map entering this contest, even though I took a big leap by entering as a beginner. Thanks for the feedback!

I guess I have enough time to properly complete my map now :D
I do have a rules question, though:
How loosely are we defining a CP map? "CPs or CP layout" is allowed, so does that include any map in which the objective is capturing points, even if the map doesn't work like any existing game mode? The map I'm working on is based around each team going after one set of control points, while defending the other set of control points from the enemy. I assume it counts, because it's a control-point-based game mode, but I figure I should double-check.

Arena and King of the Hill maps are NOT allowed.
I think those are your only restritions on gamemode.

The map must use Control Points in the game enough for it to be logically prefixed "cp_". For instance, invasion CTF uses a control point but you would not call it CP.

An update!

For those of you who are working on your maps or finishing them up, or maybe even just starting them, and are wondering "man, should I make a video trailer for this map?" ... I'll gladly spoil the answer for you. It is yes. We encourage you to make a trailer for you map. Additionally, if your trailer is of a high enough quality (as decided by tf2m staff), and if you so choose, we will upload the trailer to the TF2M official Youtube channel. Please keep your trailers below 3 minutes.

Also, I'm looking for judges for this contest. Please PM me on the forums (not on steam, I will lose them!) saying that you are interested. In the subject line of the forum PM, please say something to the effect of "I'm interested in being a judge for the Dynamic CP contest!" ... something so that when I go through the conversations later, I can easily find those interested.
