It's my belief that if the shape of the point accurately reflects the capture zone, the hazard stripes don't even matter.

I'm not sure how you did it, but you managed to take pictures of the two most uninteresting looking spots on the map for your loading screen.

So not the entire objective of the final area or the skybox area that has gotten a ton of praise and comments of how gorgeous it is?

edit: Let me rephrase that last one. The part of the skybox that we have all agreed is one of the most scenic spots on the map?

The point of loading screens is to show some of the landmarks of the map, not necessarily the "interesting" gameplay parts.

So, I think what Sel was trying to say (and I'm sure he was trying to say it in the nicest way possible) is that you're screenshots might need a bit more focus on a landmark. The Tower is fine (and not ugly), but I agree with Prestige that instead of showing the yard, show one of the points.

I ran through and snagged some screenshots of some official maps loading screens. These in particular stood out to me as examples of something similar to what we've done.

Our shots aren't final and will definitely be retaken and tweaked, but I don't think they are that far off what a lot of other maps have.

You'll notice quite a few don't even have a CP featured. A lot of them also have an upward angled shot showing off a scenic/ iconic view of their map, balanced out with another shot of a gameplay area.

So, I don't think we are that far off from where we should be with our shots. They will be tweaked with the feedback in mind though, so thanks to those who are being constructive about it.

hmmm well i think the first/second cap looks hella more interesting than the barrel on the ledge looking out into some blurry mountains

Actually, seeing all those snapshots in a group, one common theme is that they show one shot of a BLU spawn, and one shot of the final objective. Exceptions are symmetrical maps, which seem to show one of the starting spawns and the central point.

So I guess there's something to be learned from that little exercise.

I think the motivation to show "a barrel and some blurry mountains" was to bring some attention to the stoney ridge part of stoneyridge.. where we've received flak in past feedback for the name of the map making no sense.

Not saying it was the correct motivation, but that's the thought that went into it.

Great observations and conversations. The current opening screen was a placeholder and will change in the final version.

The final tower will changing visually in the next version and will probably be included in the final opening screen photo as we feel it will have more focus (due to the explosion, changes and lighting updates). I definitely agree with everyone on changing the "ridge" photo.

Thanks everyone for the feedback - always appreciated.

Our shots aren't final and will definitely be retaken and tweaked, but I don't think they are that far off what a lot of other maps have.

The equivalent to the shot overlooking the deck and sky would be equivalent to upward or thundermountain taking a picture of areas off of the cliff, yet you don't see anything like that anywhere in those pictures.

You'll notice quite a few don't even have a CP featured.

And you'll notice that every single pair has atleast one, if not both pictures showing off important gameplay areas, not both looking at scenery. Also I said gameplay areas, not capture points.

A lot of them also have an upward angled shot showing off a scenic/ iconic view of their map, balanced out with another shot of a gameplay area.

You'll also notice that all the iconic areas shown are things you can't miss within major gameplay areas, whereas you're taking a picture of a deck, that after playing your map multiple times, I've seen maybe once, around the tenth time playing.

Also for the record, if the most iconic thing in your map, is not actually in the map, then you've messed up (see tc_hydro dev commentary)

So, I don't think we are that far off from where we should be with our shots.

If you had used the one in the thread showing off the area outside blue spawn I might have agreed with you!

So, I don't think we are that far off from where we should be with our shots. They will be tweaked with the feedback in mind though, so thanks to those who are being constructive about it.

*implying there's people here who aren't being constructive*

Ok, I'll be completely honest here...

I thought the one in the OP was what we had for our loading screen.

I have TF2 installed on an SSD so a lot of times it just blinks up and loads in.

So yeah, my bad, I really thought we did have two scenic shots and one gameplay shot. That explains some things.
