Went to go see Neighbors a week ago or so. While it contains a lot of immature penis/drugs jokes (the movie is about a frat house), I haven't laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. Good to watch with friends who don't mind crude humor.

Cloud Atlas is another good one. It's not a comedy by any means, although it's got some funny bits. It follows about 5 or 6 different timelines that are all in different periods of history (pre-civil war, WWII, 1960s, present day, futuristic future, post-apocalyptic future) and shows how they all relate. You really have to pay attention to the movie to figure out what's going on, but there's so many "Oh! I get that now!" moments that it's totally worth it. They also use a lot of the same actors for different characters in the different timelines - Tom Hanks plays six different characters, but you wouldn't know until the credits roll.

EDIT: Also, gonna throw in another recommendation for The Iron Giant and The Pianist. Great movies.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Whoa X-Men are cool again. All of the actors gave great performances, forget what I said about being tired of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, he was fantastic in this.
Definitely one to watch

Edge of Tomorrow
Whooooaaaa mumma the trailers do not do this film justice. Probably one of the best action films I've seen in a long time. Tom Cruise gives a great performance, Emily Blunt is amazing as always. The groundhog day stuff is done really well so that you never see needless repetition.
Given the choice between this and X-Men, pick this

Wow did I forget to mention 'Her'?
Seriously good film that. Really funny and innovative. It loses it's way a little towards the end but the bulk of the film is definirely good enough to make up for a poorer ending.

Cloud Atlas. A fantastic movie. You may start off confused - you're watching six different time periods and most actors are in more than half of them as different characters, but if you pay attention you'll get the hang of it on the second or third rotation. Plus, the connections between the time periods are ingenius. It's based off a book: if you read, go out and buy it - one of my favorite books.

An Invisible Sign. I don't think it's known very well for being a decent movie, however I enjoyed it very much so. It's about a girl who learned to love math from her father who passes away. She becomes a teacher (the school district fails to check to see if she's certified >.>) and teaches elementary schoolers. I hate children, but I really liked how the classroom scenes ran. Also, Jessica Alba is kinda cute in it, so you got that. Its end involves the use of a prosthetic leg (maybe an arm, I forget), pee, an axe, and the number seven. It's great. It's on Netflix.

All the Paranormal Activities. The latest one linked to the very first one, and all of them are entertaining and not particularly scary (I'm usually not a fan of horror films). They're especially good if you have other people (like girls) to watch it with, as those who do get vocally frightened make it laughable and more fun. Half my dorm (25ish people) watched all of them last year.

The Pianist is FANTASTIC and you need to watch it.

Wreck it Ralph. Pretty enjoyable animated film.

Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2. They're both "bad" horror films, but I actually kind of enjoyed them.

The Room. I have seen this film at least five times in the past two years. I have met Tommy Wiseau, and I've also met Greg Sestero twice. Greg Sestosterone is a hilarious guy. It's got a cult following. You need to join the cult.

Maleficent
Not really worth watching. Everyone involved gives a bad performance, Jolie's is ok but hampered by her ridiculous cheek implants and gimp suit.
The changes to the story were pretty rad though
The prince is really hesitant to kiss a sleeping girl he doesn't know (as he should be, it's kinda rape)
The true love's kiss was changed to something far more awesome.

Otherwise, it's pretty boring and tiresome.

I just watched a movie called Trollhunter last night with friends. It's on Netflix. It's in the style of a found footage mockumentary where some college kids are doing a project about bears, that ends up being a government cover up for trolls. I really liked it. Reminded me a lot of Cloverfield.

Trollhunter is absolutely amazing. I am surprised this isn't common knowledge. It should be.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 was great. I can't remember what I thought of the first one, I think I thought that it was good but not amazing. Really enjoyed watching this one though.
We had it in our IMAX and since it's animated it's proper 3D rather than converted 3D. So it looked absolutely freakin amazeballs. There's plenty of gratuitous "hey look how pretty this is" sequences, and they're so pretty it's totally worth it.
Definitely improved by IMAX 3D.

Totally agree with YM. I went to see How to Train Your Dragon 2 today in IMAX 3D, and it BLEW ME AWAY. Definitely the best animated movie this year.

WHOA WHOA

No.

Three words:

The LEGO Movie.

----

Moving on:
Transformers 4
What an unmitigated sack of shit.

Want shots that verge on child porn?
Want literally every other shot to change aspect ratio? (IMAX version only) (not an abuse of the word literally, I mean it)
Want 3D to pop between shot in 3D and nasty stereo conversion?
Want lingering shots of charred bodies in your 12A/PG13?
Want to be bored silly within 15 minutes?
Want a 3 hour monstrosity to end suddenly and shove a major plotline to the side in the penultimate shot?
Want John Goodman to never stop bluring out shit line after shit line?
Want to watch a bunch of autobots you've never heard of before shooting dozens of bland cookie cutter transformers who get about 1 second screen time each before exploding?
Want the weirdest, most obvious and in-your-face 20 seconds of product placement randomly halfway through?
Want to watch a father and a boyfreind argue the whole way through about who is saving the damsel daughter/girlfriend.
Want to watch Optimus Prime grant a bunch of transformers their freedom then in the very next sentence hear him say "Defend my family or die" with a sword to the transformer's throat?
Want Optimus to say "My Autobots can repair me" then 10 minutes before they meet any other autobots completely repair himself?

If you answered yes to any of these. Please, never, ever tell me about it.

Those massive flaws said, dropping shia le bitchface and his godawful parents was an insanely good move. The replacement family was bland as gray paint but they lacked the cheesy juvenile script from the previous 3.
There were also some very nice, clear IMAX explosions. Definitely the clearest I've ever seen. But that was about 2-3 seconds out of about 3 hours of mess.

There's one scene, where it's all IMAX shots, so used the full screen. Then for just a single 2 second shot in the middle of the while 3 minute sequence it dips down to regular screen shape. Michael Bay hasn't got a fucking clue how to make a film.

I think I enjoyed Skyline more. And that's reeeaaaallllly saying something.

My favourite line of Transformers 4:

"His name is Shane and he drives cars."

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Its a great movie, good enough that I bought another ticket and watched it 3 days later. Everyone go watch it.

(However I think HTTYD2 was absolutely gorgeous and it took my breath away so I still like it better.:cool1:)
