I've begun increasingly worried that the popular vote will be biased towards a specific game mode. I've already heard several people making verdicts on the CTF game mode :(

It's discouraging.
They can go to hell. CTF gametype is always being bashed in the TF2 community, and I'm sure the fact that our maps use the ctf_ prefix will only make them just as vulnerable to this bias. But you have to think of it as motivation to show these players what can be done with an intel briefcase in the hands of a skilled mapper. If anything, it's far more innovative and delving into more uncharted territory than the payload race maps are.

My map (relay) is kind of doing that, with the intelligence briefcases containing computer override codes to allow the players to progress past gates and (eventually) disarm a missile.

That's what I was going for with Vector as well.

Vector: Any vehicle (the intel carrier) used to transfer foreign genetic material (virus) into another cell (weapons systems).

Uploading bits of the virus to various terminals throughout the base delays the activation of the weapon, as well as signifying the advance of the attacking team.

I find it funny (in a good way) how everyone comes up with this 10 second stories for their maps. It's very entertaining.

Maps with stories are interesting. Even more so if you know what it is just by playing it. (See: the 6 original maps)

Well, I think I might neglect my social life more and enter this contest. Sigh.....

It makes sense to me to have the two gamemodes graded seperately, with two winners. The new CTF mode and PLR are so different I don't know how you'd compare all the maps, except through personal preference of the gamemode. Even if there's one ultimate winner though, it would be nice for the best map from the other gamemode to be recognized as well.

The grading is not "what do you like more", it is "what was built best", and that will show regardless of what you do within the map.

I know, and it probably won't end up being an issue. But there's the possibility that two amazing maps are entered under different game modes. If both are built really well respective to their game mode, there hits a point where you can't separate an objective critique from personal preference. It'd be like judging whether an apple or an orange is the superior fruit.

Of course, I guess it's unlikely two "perfect" maps will get made like that. I'm probably getting worked up over nothing.:woot:

Regarding the bias towards the different modes, I completely forgot to distinguish how the awards are handled. The top score for each game mode gets a prize, then all the remaining top scores will get one, regardless of mode. It's possible that our prize collection will be boosted enough to allow winning in separate categories, but no promises yet.

True, and if you consider the year as just that, then it does it perfectly well. However, I was wondering if 1953 = (1+9), (5+3) = 08, as the founding year of TF2M, since hes got the hammer logo with "crafting the world, building since 1953." Just seems like it would be another subtle nod to the community.


Nvm, looked at the group page on steam. its 2007 :-/

I downloaded the CTF prefab and tested out earlier today and I discovered that it adds 10 kills to your score for each capture. Is this intended?

It's a hardcoded leftover from TFC's Avanti (which the Invade setting was modeled after), and there isn't anything you can do about it (since everything else with that setting is perfect).

@I- D : could you update the OP to state every gamemode-alteration that is allowed?
After seeing more and more exceptions it would be nice to see which variation has already been allowed to participate

would be quite helpful for people who are about to start and haven´t decided yet on the gamemode or still toy with ideas in their head
