Won't hear back for a day or two whilst they decide if they want to interview me face-to-face but I think today's phone interview went OK.

I spent nearly an hour talking to two designers at Valve about my development process.

It wasn't nearly as nerve-racking as I thought it would be.

Anyhow, I kept it a little quiet beforehand but now it's over I'll keep you updated on future developments.

EDIT: To clarify, this was a job interview, not a journalistic interview

Nope that didn't come up at all.

They asked for a background of my level/game design work, then about my development process with regards to source stuff. Then about a challenge I'd overcome in level design work, either in execution or thinking about a problem. I responded to that by talking about hydro's stalemates and how I've tried to fix that in strata.
Can't remember what questions followed that specifically, we spent most of the time talking about strata.

They said now they're gunna talk about me for a while and get back to me 'pretty quickly' which they qualified as a couple of days, maybe as little as a day.

I seem to remember you saying you didn't want to work in the games industry because it was too competitive for your liking, that you'd rather go into something which had a better job garauntee, like with your science degree (i forget which subject you were doing, physics? If it was even a science? :s ).

I know Rexy has poked Valve about potential employment but they have not been that responsive, to his frustration.

I don't think I've ever said anything about games being too competitive an industry, that doesn't sound like me at all.

Well life returns to normal, just three hours after the interview they sent an email saying they're not moving forwards with my application.

Time to regroup!

On the revised agenda:
  1. Singleplayer.
  2. High poly modeling.
  3. Low poly modeling.
  4. Applying for that 1 year games art course I've been looking at.

this is valve we're talking about grazr.
valve =/= the gaming industry

Valve is in the game industry. If you apply to Valve, you are applying to work within the game industry. Not sure what part of that you don't understand.

But yes, i'm curious about any feedback you had from Valve.
