I still think we should have a contest where everyone participating bans 5 props and 5 textures from use. In order to push forward some fresh prop/texture combinations.

Of course essential props/textures will be unbannable (tool textures, capture points, skyboxes, ect)

Also custom assets wouldn't be allowed in this one (for obvious reasons)

5 sounds overkill.
How about 2

those would be covered under

As for prop count 5 is just my suggestion. 2 isnt really enough cause some props have 3 or 4 versions (like barrel crate, shipping container, and pine trees)

I'm not the biggest fan of a contest where we restrict the use of stuff but I'd totally be down for a contest based around trying new things. New themes, new gamemodes (if you've not mapped for a specific one before). Gimmicks, etc.

Would be fun imo.

Restrictions have their place, it can help breed creativity. I'm going back and forth about restricting props use as a contest idea. What would we honestly disable besides crates, doorframes or barrels? (If we plan to not let you troll people out by banning supply lockers and such).

I like the idea of banning props but five might be a bit low. We have access to three prop libraries with hundreds of props a piece and that isn't including custom content packs like maritime or construction. What if we made it so you were only allowed certain prop libraries?

The main idea was to get people to try for themes other than barrel crate alpine lab, shipping container gravel pile, and computer world spytech.

Idk about allowing the large semi-official packs, I kind of want to, because they need more use, but then we could end up with everyone diving to those packs for their themes due to the excess amount of props.

That may or may not be a bad thing truthfully. We ban the props everyone uses as their go-to in the hopes they get more creative with other packs.

I just figured a prop-library would be a good idea if we plan to egg people towards non-alpine themes. Or we could ban themes, though that sounds complicated to enforce.

If you want to take a weird route, someone could make a program that grabs a random 100 props, and those are the only props you can use in your map (excluding essential ones, of course). And each person has their own different pool of 100 assorted props to work with.

How about a contest were you just need to make a rare/new theme? Could be harvest theme, kongking theme, construction, japan, swamp, or something completely new. Anything that's unique.

But that would require loads of modelling and texturing knowhow rather than a competition of actual mapping skill. Plus it takes far more time and skill to make a theme than a map. Perhaps a competition to make the best map fitting a brand new theme? An Arctic Theme contest?

I think this idea would be cool but perhaps only if everyone had the same props. It would be a pain if you got really unworkable props and someone else got all the convenient ones. Cue maps filled with cows and radio towers.

Turbo said this was an awful idea but I want to post it here just because of it's intense beauty in principle alone:

Tubes.

Tuuuuuuubes.

The Tube Contest.

Make a map based around tubes.

People have made maps with all of those themes without modelling and texturing? They all exist already.

20:15 - Berry✰: I think we should have an MvM mini-contest where it's not a full thing but a bunch of us just make mvm maps
20:15 - Turbo Lover: Oh, Berry
20:16 - Turbo Lover: We should have an MvM popfile contest
20:16 - phi: turbo would win
20:16 - Turbo Lover: Where we make custom popfiles for a Valve MvM map
20:16 - Berry✰: interesting
20:16 - Berry✰: no not a valve one
20:16 - Turbo Lover: Fine
20:16 - Berry✰: I think we should make a unique layout
20:16 - Berry✰: we could even have it all devs and allow people to artpass it

So we get a dev textured MvM map layout from somewhere and the contest is half artpass and half popfile creation.
