Lest we forget, the contest has already begun. It's a secret contest. You have to decipher a series of clues to participate.

I propose the next contest be unconventional game modes. Make a map based on a game mode not featured in any stock maps. Large enough gameplay overhalls (something which significantly affects gameplay at all times) could qualify.

What about a mini-contest that focuses on KOTH maps that have crazy geometry, and are not required to fallow the TF2 theme per-say?

Basically Rexy's orange contest? (without the KOTH part)

*Goes to check*

Why yes, that is very similar to what i had in mind :)

Alright, but what about a contest that focuses on different special effects? I'm sure it would not be processor friendly, and the layouts might suck, but it would look really cool.

How about we just have a normal contest with a normal gamemode. I really don't like how gimmicky the contest have gotten in an overzealous effort to make them "interesting."

This.

Can we also do a more relaxing mode like KoTH. So far all the contests have been massive A/D maps where 80% of people drop out because of the extensive work load, or some mode that should be easy, CTF, but gimmicks like comp play get thrown in; and we all know how much fun that was.

People complained about the comp contest and people are complaining about this artpass contest... people need the oppotunity to chill and be satisfied with something straighforward.

I just want a normal contest that people can thoroughly enjoy.

I've been considering attempting a KOTH map again, just to get my feet wet and learn a bit more. A KOTH or CTF contest would actually be something I'd consider entering, if for no other reason than the experience. It would be a great straightforward contest with few barriers for entry. KOTH and CTF are perfect game types to start off with for mappers who are learning and are also excellent for experienced mappers who really want to take their time developing and detailing a great map.

I've been tinkering with the idea of a map that rotates.

And not around the Z axis, either. ;D

It kinda-sorta works, but is too unstable to make a playable map. Occasionally I've been ejected from the playable volume out into the leak-preventing skybox (trains can do strange things and func_rotating doesn't work "right" in TF2).

Though the idea of being at the bottom of a giant rotating drum is awesome: cover comes and goes, and if you stand next to it and wait, it becomes a height advantage!

I attempted a spinning map, i used a phys_motor- it was really glitchy and sometimes didn't move, but once i solved that problem, when it did spin, the player wouldn't. You would just glitch in place while it spun.

Also a KOTH contest sounds awesome.

I thought about this contest a while back:

You take any officially released map, and refit it with a new game mode. This doesn't sound too exciting at first, but I could just imagine CP_2Fort, or PL_Badlands. Crazy stuff.
