The problem with the images is...

You say "Don't vote based on the image". Yet their is 44 maps. NO ONE wants to go through them all I imagine. I think the better solution would have been to put thumbnails of everyone's map (With their name on it) so you can look at it and say "Hmmn this pips my interest. LET ME DOWNLOAD IT AND LOOK." instead of a blind shoot in the dark.

Otherwise your relying on people's memory and trying to find which they like...

Just my two cents.

Shouldn't that already be in the pack?

EDIT: Oh wow, good job not including anything we uploaded with our maps.

competition rules clearly state TF2 official content and swamp content only.

owlruler went through the trouble of including our particle manifests to the point of manuallly extracting them in some cases, as stated already.

If you have included other custom content you have not followed the rules properly and should not be surprised by missing content.

There's not much to the maps, 2048 by 2048. they only take a minute each to look at at best; and it's the least you could do considering the effert put in by each individual.

Why did I name my swamp CP... I must have been a tad bit too tired... hehe oh well. :blushing:

I kind of want my vote to go to vfig, im just a bit unsure. His hidden base was Great, but it wasn't necessarily swamp themed...

this is a ridiculous monster of a vote.

How do you expect us to choose one from so many?

Heya,

Tell me what you think of my underground laser base. Don't go through the laser porthole on the island, there's a player clip there :p, plus if you go through the sinking shack you can see the other stuff in the underground lair.

Thanks

Unless I'm missing something I've got no manifests in my download. Also I don't have any soundscape manifests which my map had.

Why even bother doing that? I see no purpose in packing those files into the maps even more so now that it's causing problems.

I guess the idea was it saved people fussing around with a bunch of text files and where to put them. It makes the map pack a lot more easy to deal with. I've got no problems, the particles and soundscapes are working fine for me. atleast on the first 11.. i need to check out the rest later and cast my vote.

Hi.

Why is mine (swamp_doggeti) outside the alphabetical order at the bottom of the list?

Why not? There's a lot of good-looking maps there, and it's definitely worth taking the time to have a look around them all. It took me about three hours to do so, but with 13 days left before the poll closes, you can take your time and just have a look at two or three in a sitting if you'd prefer.

There's no hurry: take your time, and show your respect for your fellow mappers by giving their entries a few minutes of your time.

There is a swamp above it :p

All of these maps are just way too many to look through.
It is a detailing contest after all, a screenshot or two of every map would be enough.
If you made a list of screenshots, or a java applet where people can easily flip through a few screenshots and filter by the ones they like, you'd get many more votes.

My vote goes to grazr after selecting a handful of finalists. Although it feels a bit bland in some places all of his ideas are executed really well. My second choice would be jazz, followed by cameron, eerieone, joshuaC and tanuki.

I've just spent an hour looking through all those entries. Everybody had lots of interesting ideas - some had more than others - and some were better with the quality of execution for their ideas than others. My vote is based on both quantity of ideas as well as the quality of execution. I also made my decision based on how well the map fits the tf2 design (not too bland, not too cluttered with details, proportions, colors, lighting,...) and how the swamp atmosphere is realized (use of fog, soundscapes, particles, cubemaps,.. just everything a final map release should have).

Since the rules didn't state this is a screenshot contest (because it's NOT) you'll miss a lot of great details and nice ideas if you don't have a walk around in game and vote based on a single screenshot.

Because a screenshot wont show you soundscapes. A screenshot wont capture the animations of the particle effects that had so much effert put into them by the creators of the swamp pack, and their specific execution. Screenshots wont be able to show every angle of the map or of particular detail scenes that can be experienced through walking through the map.

Basically a screenshot wont show you the full experience created by the level designer.

Although it feels a bit bland in some places all of his ideas are executed really well.

I understand what you mean. I always had this feeling of having not filled up space as much as it could have been, but throwing a hundred trees at the map seemed cheap. I tried to create a believable space which ended up meaning having some open space in the process, which subsequently made me wish there was more room to create a more themed scenario that justified this choice.

I'm glad you liked it however :)

Sorry for the stupid question but what is the easiest way to look at 48 fast.
I think this is correct but i would open the bsp in tf2 using create server and keep changing map. I wouldnt use the vpk as you would have to compile each time right?

Thanks just wondering what would be the fastest as i want to spend time on all 48.
