So yeah. This was an arena map I made that played okay but I suck at detailing so I'd rather not butcher it myself. If anyone wants to convert this to a more popular gamemode (probably 5cp) then be my guest. Otherwise, I'd love to see this detailed, preferably in the sawmill theme.

I suggest reposting this to the HH forum as well, they (and me) loved your map!

I'm pretty sure the saying doesn't go "if at first you don't succeed, give up on everything" but maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.

Take a look at maps like Sawmill and Thunder Mountain and other maps that use the dark and stormy Alpine theme and incorporate some of the ideas present in those maps. Also, practice.

EDIT: just remembered another thing: check out ABS's prop library. It's super duper useful.

I have to agree on that. I probably spent more time looking at the detailing of decompiled valve maps and reading tutorials than actually mapping. It's quite easy to get overwhelmed at first and trying to find out how everything works (i had the advantage that i knew the basics of brushwork from my HLDM mapping,) but it feels really good once you start to see results, even if it takes way longer than a experienced mapper would need for the same level of detail.

I'm sorry I did not tell you about me using the map for TF2C. Hopefully you can forgive me.

It's fine.

I also had to take a break of a few minutes and began detailing the map a bit. I can't really say if i'll be ever able to complete it, but like i said, i loved the gameplay, so i might be motivated.

Holy cripes. That's exactly the kind of look I was thinking of from the start.

Seeing this and Yacan's work have got me really excited as to how these will turn out. Cheers.

In that screenshot with the tire on the roof: are we suppose to be up there? I see the tire and I think of Dustbowl doing that with a low roof that wasn't accessible.
