Today has been a fun day. I didn't want to do any work so I decided to film a silly little promo in SFM.... BUT THEN!
It all started so innocently, "oh the map isn't compiled, I'll just fix that right up." I thought to myself. Little did I know the horrors that were in store, for I had not compiled the whole map for some days and in my frenzied detailing it seems I overshot the brushsides limit by what must be 30 or more percent. I then proceeded to spend basically the entire day converting detail brushes into models using propper. Now, at 1am I am finally back under the brush side limit and will have to be using a one-in-one-out policy. For every new brush I make, I have to convert one into a model. which could be hard seeing as I already converted about 50% of my detail brushes into models today.
On the plus side to all this, my VRAD times have dropped a fair bit as a hefty chunk of lightmap has disappeared and I suspect that's helped my overall filesize, though I haven't even begun lightmap optimisation and I estimate a map of strata's size could stand to lose 10mb or more once I start. I have no idea what my current filesize is mind you, it could be through the roof.
EDIT: 74MB no custom content, no cubemaps.
