I love it when maps play with shadows like that
You can thank Aly and Layl who convinced me to do so, wouldn't have got the lighting to this point without the chatroom
How's that PSA go? "When you play with pirated software, you're playing with Satan" or something like that.
Is Sawmill really asymmetrical, though?Smashing some brain cells together, thinking of layouts, and wishing I could get back to my desktop and start doing some real mapping. I think the slightly asymmetrical layout of Sawmill is interesting, and it gave me this idea.

I'll see if I can get this on paper if I get over my laziness.
I get what he's saying in regards to Sawmill, but I think it's kind of a moot point. And I've never even noticed asymmetry in the other two.Sawmill, Lumberyard, and Watchtower all have asymmetry.
Sawmill, Lumberyard, and Watchtower all have asymmetry.
If it's still fairly balanced, why not? It changes things up a little.sawmill is very asymmetrical, lumberyard has minor asymmetries and I have barely played watchtower more than a handful of rounds.
The level of asymmetry in lumberyard and sawmill makes me wonder why. I'd have thought if they were going down asymmetry it'd be substantial like hydro. Such a minor asymmetry just seems odd.
KotH is the simplest, in my opinion, and a good layout is something that comes with practice, or so I've heard.I kind of want to attempt TF2 mapping again but I know I'd spend a few hours doing it then give up again. I've been mapping in Source for 5 years now and I've only ever released one map. My hard disk is littered with half-finished VMFs.
If I were to try and finish a map for a change, where would you guys recommend starting? I understand all the principles of mapping, I just don't know where to begin. I swear you guys are wizards for being able to make a layout that isn't total shit.
Should I just try to make a simple arena map? :/
