I've start blocking stuff out, adding a little detail here and there as nessary for gameplay (ie, this prop here because it functions as *****). Had thought this was going to be a 3 point map, and it was the first time I sketched it out. But after a 2nd sketch, which was far larger and included notes about detail, I figured it has to be 4 points. Saddly, I won't be in the country (or have access to a computer that can run tf2/hammer) for the month of december, so I've got to finish, and release, early. Eeek.

Which moderators/admins are going to judge them?

Public vote - everyone except moderators and admin

Private vote - DJive, DrPepper, Immortal-D, Shmitz, Ryodoan, The Blade Roden, MangyCarface and myself

Can you vote for yourself?

Yes that's what I was thinking. Moderators/admins who participates on the contest shouldn't vote, doesn't it?

And I'm not saying those moderators will be unfair, I'm just saying there's no contest where judges participate, and you have to agree it doesn't look impartial

I don't want to be discriminated against other participants. When you're on a compo you're not an admin or a mod, you're a participant, so why should some participants have more privileges than others? If some participants can judge a restricted mark of other participants, where's the impartiality? It's like if in the Olympics, there were some sportists who could judge themselves and even others sportists who wouldn't have that right.

Admins will not be voting for themselves.

The reason we're having an admin vote is to offset the FPSbanana effect. Yes, it's less democratic. We're just having some people who know a lot about mapping and the standards behind a good map have 50% of the say. Why only mods? Because we don't really want a lot of drama about who's in the "in-group" and how to decide that. So it's a bit arbitrary. But I think this will work... it does in government etc. Anyways, keep voicing your opinions / other ways we could do this.

Admins will not be voting for themselves.
Quoted for absolute truth.

I talked with Mangy before I set this up and when we do the voteing in the private mod corner we'll probably discuss each entry's good points and bad points but then each of us will make our own decision on the maps entered that aren't our own. As you will be able to see results of the public voting live we'd encourage you all not to vote for yourself, since we'll all think you're a jerk. Unfortunately the forum code doesn't disable certain options for certain people so voting for yourself is entirely possible, please don't though.

The issue of prizes going to moderators, which looks awefully fixed, won't be an issue because even if the public+mod voting shows myself of any of the other mods who entered to have won the prize will go to the first non-moderator runner up.
This means that (for all those concerned by it) if I go and produce another hoodoo quality map and get the most votes, I'd be labeled winner but I'd pass the prize on to the next highest voted.

just 1 more question, how would you decide the mark of each mark? group moderator mark or the average of all the moderators individual moderator marks?

The 8 of us will make our own votes then using Mangy's cunning statistics knowledge he'll work out how many of your votes ours should equal to make it a 50/50 public/moderator split then adding the votes together.
After all the voting is done and closed the mod's votes will be revealed, each having written a summary (or full essay) on why they voted as they did so that the enterants can get some feedback.

wow, this would take lot of work, you know it? :p:O

well, it's good to know mods are working hard for this compo, and it's a great idea to have individual summaries so we all know how we could improve our map.

Hi, I have a question:
The cart may be any sensible cart sized model, the official bomb, snipergen's dirty bomb, the mining cars, the little alpine train thing, etc.
Can the cart be longer: with more than one cart, a train?
My idea was to make a train with several cars: bomb car, dispensercar, empty cars to sit in, ..
Is that possible?

On a slightly related note, I've always found in situations like this that you do it then tell someone afterwards, rather than ask permission before doing it.
"Hey boss can I have some leave next week"...."no"
how it should be:
"Hey boss I've booked X appointment for next week, I'll be taking some leave so I can attend"....."oh.. uhhh, ok"

Use your initiative as to what counts as 'cart sized', look at pl_frontier and then make your decision based on those.
