I wasn't being aggressive, just assertive. This isn't a discussion of the good and bad of the additions to TF2 so don't bring it up. I hear enough bitching and crying about TF2 from Selentic.

You brought it up in your own blog post when that should've been "only about Manor and the stamps" too

That 8000 people would support the creator of a map that was only being played for halloween, kinda defeating the point of the cosmetic bonus DOES point towards an impressive community.

And then realize how many players buy lots of keys, hats and the weapon packs instead and this loses a lot of impact. Only 10000 total when compared to the weapon sales is actually pretty sad imo

Yeah he did, but this thread is about manor and stamps, if you really need to discuss what he said in his blog, use PM's, don't discuss it in thread that has nothing to do with "is TF2 bad or is TF2 good" discussion.

Congrats Youme! It's nice to see mappers who deserve the money getting it! That said, a few days on and Frontier, Lakeside and Nightfall still have less stamps than Junction. This must be corrected! :p

It'll be interesting to see how the 3 new maps actually do in regards to stamps..

I'm sure that when stamps were introduced that most people just bought the stamp pack as an easy way to support all the custom maps at once.. For the new maps you have to buy stamps individually and when I did it at least 24hrs after the maps were released I was only about the 120-150th person to do so.

I just hope that now everyone has their hat that the novelty of buying the stamps isn't lost or downgraded..

Also, wasn't the hat supposed to glow or something on maps that you have supported? Ive not seen a difference between valve and community maps.. maybe its just me?

Khuntza, the world traveler hat (or whatever it's called) has a particle effect on maps that you support. It drops stamps as you move, at least at the first level; I think the effect changes as you level up the hat, but I haven't really felt like spending the $25 dollars it would take to move up one level to find out. I'm hoping someone will eventually post some pics of a leveled up hat on the wiki or something because I'm kind of curious to see what it looks like.

I do think that a fair portion of the stamps bought were because people just wanted the hat when it was first announced.

It'll be interesting to see how my map, Lakeside and Frontier end up over the same period of time, but I don't believe they'll get anywhere near the same amount as the first batch of maps to have the stamp treatment.

Congrats on the 10k sold.

Personally I think Valve are way ahead of other developers in giving the stamp option. This rewards the community for all the time & effort they have put in. As far as I know, no other developer would 'pay' community content makers a penny. You deserve all you can get.

Three cheers for all those involved

ps: I haven't bought any stamps as I'm unemployed :eek:hmy:

Valve said they may have more plans in the future... This was only "the first step"

oh? I heard that this was their first attempt and they'd make more if they felt "we weren't compensated adequately" Which I can't say is the case.

Valve are already way ahead in rewarding community level design. UDK developers only fork out 500-1000 USD for community levels. Plus, a lot of the time these are only contest winners, other authors have their work officilised don't see a penny and are only rewarded with "recognition". Whilst Valve are paying 3000 a piece.

Valve have been pretty smart in regards to supporting the community that supports them.

Since the likes of YM, Hey0 and others have been authors of multiple officialised content (including the prop/texture packs) it's certainly allowed them a foot in the door to future game development opportunities.

Maybe an "aspiring level designer" shouldn't post photos like that if he wants to be taken seriously by employers

Hoodoo also hit 10,000 stamps in the last few days.

I'm sorry.
