ugh, long post deleted by mistake, short version:

That image shows 208 units and 256 units high ceilings (the lowest of any interior ceilings) it looks a lot smaller than it is, though valve didn't give us a lot of space to work with. I've tried to limit the large props to the larger rooms where there is more space. I'm very conscious of the limited space.

Also yeah, luigi's mansion is awesome.

The hallway looks a little strange being only partly wallpapered. The two different walls looked great in the library pic, but it also had bookshelves breaking up the textures perfectly. I'd suggest making the entire hallway one texture or the other.

Also, the ceiling could use a little something. Doesn't necessarily need anything elaborate; simply raising the center of it would do wonders.

I think it's fine as it is. I think this is supposed to be a non-interesting corridor to walk through any way, not the best spot to throw a lot of details.

might I suggest framing the cap arrows?

You may.

Today, highlight on the lighting instruments being used. In addition to the new items, YM has placed these existing assets in the theme-set library, which are being used to light the map:

And here are the new lighting items:

Could we have some screens of your map please? I'm so curious :D

That's up to YM. Also I just discovered I have the terminology wrong...with a single candle it's called a candelabrum. *grumble*

Nice models! :)

Could we have some screens of your map please? I'm so curious :D

I didn't get anything done today yet as a friend was having very late birthday celebrations (He even had some celebrations on his birthday two weeks ago the greedy git)
I've just started on it and may have something to show in the next few hours.

The striped wall paper down the long corridor just looks aweful. Use a floral patterned wall paper or something else that doesn't literally hurt the eyes. You could try something with a 64 unit high wood paneling and red repeating floral pattern, pinkish on a red base. Or a 64 unit high red with a wooden trim seperating the top white 192 units.

and again, i really feel the trusses in the top corners don't seem necassery. Remove them, or maybe make them into something like:

corridor_2d.jpg

edit: Oh, and that light switch looks out of place. You could probably use an overlay or get Rexy to make a switch more like: http://www.daviddarling.info/images/light_switch.jpg

That being said, in a house full of candles, why are there light switches at all? I know there are some ceiling lights... but it seems a little inconsistant to have some of the house candle lit and others lit by electricity powered bulbs.

Don't listen to them. The light switch is absolutely fantastic. It gives the building an old, creaky built-before-electricity feel, and is similar to the other maps, which gives players a good way to relate to it so that it doesn't seem too non-tf2-y.

Oh yeah, and it kind of reminds me of gas lighting, which is totally retro-cool.

I think you should limit the usage of lamps in the house.
Put the lamps in the main areas, and put the candles in the areas between these rooms.

From what I can remember from when my Grandma had an old house with not electricity everywhere, and from watching old movies...
Is that the electricity was usually placed in areas you'd spend the most time in, and the space between these areas were usually without any lighting.
I figure that in the days when electricity was more used, candles were probably used in the areas where there weren't much electricity.

This is just a guess though, it's been a long while since she sold that house...

What are you talking about? How is an industrial light switch that visibly plugs into a doorframe consistent with a 19th century mansion?

It's a 19th century mansion, but in the 20th century. It makes sense.

I agree on the candles AND lights being a bit much, though. Stick with one, I'd say (probably the lights).

I feel like all these shacks look very poor and irish in comparison to the mansion. I would like to see the yard where the two themes merge.
