Frontline Props Placeholders Library - Placeholder props for use in alpha maps to decrease file size.

Tired of seeing 90 mb alpha maps stuffed with Frontline Assets? Well, this pack hopes to alleviate that problem by providing mappers with a library of placeholders to use instead of props. Key props include the tank and fountains.

Every placeholder is properly nodrawed and func_detailed (one could change that to func_brush depending on the situation).

info_null over some placeholders provide extra info in the comment section about using that specific placeholder or its category.

I'm open to suggestions of any props I did not include.

any possibility of something like a crashed fighter plane in the next frontline update? could make for some nice looking map aesthetics.

Eh? This isn't an official Frontline thing (but hint hint nudge nudge @Crash I wouldn't mind if this was mentioned somewhere on the Frontline page), and it only has placeholders for props (not actual props). You should suggest your idea on the official Frontline thread

That's true, but another important reason for the file size is the lack of repacking the bsp, it tremendously compresses file sizes. Your library is helpful for sure, but shouldn't you also consider other alpha maps with packed custom content from other content packs? (I know this is for Frontline, but still.)

Repacking only affects the map blob (lightmaps etc.) and not custom content.

So if you pack let's say a 5 MB map with custom content, end up with a file size of something like 80, then manage to compress it into around 20 MB or so. So, it wouldn't affect compression of let's say textures for a custom model?

It would, but not as much as the map lump would be compressed. Custom content is basically zipped up compared to the amount of compression done to the map file itself.

I mean you made it easier to access the props rather then browsing. (expecially when you play server that maje you thousands of models.)

yeah idk why, but on the frontline website it says "Asset and Prefab Zoo" but the actual vmf that's included is called "frontline_tzu"

Either way, it includes every prop and a couple of prefabs. Also it has preset lighting for the different skyboxes.

What is a zoo/tzu?
An asset zoo is a map that holds all the assets from a pack or whatnot, for the sake of demonstrating the content and easier finding of it when needed.
Frontline! pack has a zoo which is called "tzu" as kind of a joke (I think?), the update of CSGO's de_nuke with new content had a zoo with all the content. A Boojum Snark's pack has a zoo with the entirety of TF2's prop models split into 3 vmfs.

That said, packs like Frontline always put their props all into one folder, so it's not like they'd be hard to find in the browser. Zoos are useful for when the creators are bad at sorting them into logical folders or the props are all too generic to reasonably sort in the first place.
