Contest idea thread!

I had contacted valve folk about doing an artpass contest 2, but to no avail.

Mvm was one of the ideas for it I had in mind.

I would love to participate in and MvM contest if only because I've never done an MvM map before and it would be a good learning experience.

Well I might set up this contest then, maybe have it on around October or something.

Just came up with this one:
Size contest!
4 different categories:
512x512 (very hard)
1024x1024 (hard)
2048x2048 (medium)
4096x4096 (easy)
The challenge would be to build a map that fits within those size constraints, with no limit on height.
The harder the category you enter, the better the payout.
I think it would be interesting to see how people handle this, and i feel like we all might learn something!
As Mark Rosewater says: "Restrictions breed creativity" !

I remember that contest, it was just detailing to the best of your ability in a square. I also recall people complaining there was no height limit.

Has there ever been a Halloween Contest? With how elaborate Halloween has gotten in TF2, a contest around it could be fun.

Bit late for that, but maybe for next year. Maybe for early next year, so Valve doesn't waste their time trying to build a map of their own (I'd always wondered what, if anything, they'd originally planned for 2010 before Mann Manor got handed to them on a silver plate).

A tale of two skillsets. And it was terrible because many great details / layouts where never realised because there where so many

2 Skillsets would've been better if stage 1 voting finished before stage 2 started, and you detailed the top X (3?) for stage 2 instead of any map.

Yes, the artpass map - the vmf was provided by valve and the winners went into the game - those are Mann Manor and Mountainlab.

In case this idea hasn't been thrown around yet:
How about a contest where all participants have to use one of the theme packs (like swamp for example) and make a map with that theme? i'd find it interesting to see how people handle a set theme.

Why is the construction pack on the front page anyway? it makes it look as if it was just released. I myself was confused, and I've been using it for a few years.

Nowhere does it say "NEW CONTENT PACKS". It's just "Content Packs".
Speaking of which, other content packs like bulletcrops should be there too imo.
