Here's a list of some textures I was already planning to make that might fit the theme:

Desert Sand (may or may not work well for a beach).
Corrugated Metal (like this: http://tinyurl.com/k9zqj8c). Useful for the roofs or walls of shacks.
Desert Cave Rock. For making caves in desert (or perhaps Island) themed maps.

If anyone has any requests for textures, I would be more than happy to contribute.

How about some rope textures that look like vegetation?

good work. I need to think of another good idea. Maybe a large tiki mask (prop, not a costume piece)?

How about a warning against falling coconuts? It's a nice and real danger.

Maybe include the tree?

I think it should come from behind, base it after the sandman kill icon:
obviously not coming from that horizontal angle otherwise it really will look like a bowling ball, maybe add a bit of coconut fuzz/fur to it if it still looks odd

the right angle can show them as spherical though, not a big deal

Coconuts aren't even circular along _any_ axis.

They're a sort of rounded triangle along one and like an american 'foot'ball along the other
