9:58 AM - bakscratch_/: Berry x Emily
Berry was pulling out all the stops. She made reservations for the nicest restaurant in town, rented a nice dress, picked flowers from her garden, and even did something with her mess of a hairdo. She'd finally met the one! She was in love, and she had to make sure everything went perfect this evening. She had found someone who was the most important thing in the world to her that night.
They made arrangements to meet at the restaurant at 5:30. Berry showed up at 5:00 just to make sure she got her reservation, and spent the time obsessing over every last detail of the dinner table. Trimming the flowers, lighting the candles, dusting the seat cushion reserved for her very special guest. The waiting staff looked at her a bit funny, but they'd seen enough people head over heels in love to recognize one.
5:30 rolled around, but the goddess had not yet arrived. Berry decided to wait.
It was 5:45. She still hadn't arrived. Berry thought about calling her, but decided the last thing she needed was a distraction from getting ready for the date. It could also be because of traffic, because it was the 4th of July. Berry had booked a room at a hotel with a perfect balcony view of the fireworks that night.
6:00, and still no sign of her. Berry was getting anxious. She still held off on calling her.
6:30. She was an hour late. Berry was staring at the phone in her hand, expecting it to give her answers. She couldn't think straight. She was an hour late. She took a sip from the glass of water the waiter had provided about half an hour ago. She found it was empty, and her hand was twitching. She was an hour late.
At 7:00 Berry left the restaurant and went to her car. She wasn't in any mood to drive. She wasn't in any mood to do anything. She had done everything she could to make it the best night of both of their lives, but her date simply had not shown up! She looked at her phone. The battery was dead from checking the time every minute for the last 90 minutes.
She was still in the car at 9:00. The sound of fireworks kept her awake, no matter how badly she wanted to sleep.
An hour passed. Berry didn't sleep that night. The fireworks had long since stopped, but she was unable to sleep over the deafening sound of her own thoughts and soft sobbing.
Emily had stayed home that night playing BattleBlock Theater.
