Something to work on while my 72hr contest entry is being held hostage by the voting process.

I'm planning for this to be a multi-stage map, but for now there's only one stage.

Omg

how wil dis werk

Think of it like Arena tug-o-war. The first stage will be in the middle, then there's a second stage, and then the final stage in which the losing team must defend their last control point.

I was going to make a multistage arena once. All the stages were going to be the same, but detailed differently. I couldn't make the logic work right though.

Isn't TC basically multi Stage Arena?

Actually I was planning on doing a TC/Arena hybrid, but I fell on the hurdle of TC being reeaallllyyyy haaaaaarrd to do, even with the reduced size that Arena brings.

I guess this is still a TC/Arena hybrid, except more linear.

Got this one out fairly quickly. But I guess it is Arena...

a2:
* changed the ground texture to something that doesn’t evoke Green Hill Zone
* fixed players getting caught trying to get out from under the large buildings
* expanded the building on the side and added an additional route that goes through it
* improved clipping
* added more health, you whiny sods
* added a light to the area under the building so you can see under there
* changed skybox to something more interesting (sky_badlands_01)
* other misc changes

Welp.

Just as I was about finished with a3, Apple happened. Long story short, my entire maps folder got completely, irrecoverably erased from my Mac. VMFs, BSPs and autosaves all gone. Thanks Apple.

Anyway, fucked if I'm redoing this from scratch. It's arena anyway; nobody likes arena. But here's what could have been:

RIP Samuel. I didn't hate you as much as the others.

You know how on Windows, if you try to copy a folder into a place that already has a folder of the same name, it merges the two folders into one? Apparently Apple doesn't get the concept of merging folders; when I tried copying custom content into the tf folder, it decided to completely erase the existing tf folder. It didn't even move it to the trash bin, it just flat out purged it from all existence. I've tried a bunch of recovery tools but they could only find a tiny handful of maps, and even then they wouldn't actually recover them until I shelled out £50 for the full version of the software.

I had all my VMFs stored in there, as well as all the BSPs, so I've got no chance of getting anything back. I could download the last uploaded version of arena_samuel but I'd still have to redo the second stage entirely from scratch which frankly I'm not really in the mood for right now.

Today I learned two very important lessons:
1. Always back up your files.
2. Never buy a Mac.

Ugh Mudpie, that's really sad. That seems like a really stupid thing for any file folder system to do.

So you use bootcamp?

Better yet, and you might already be looking into the options, there are multiple ways to recover deleted files on Mac hard drives (since when a file is deleted in any way, the data isn't lost until it's written over again).

I did some quick research- see here, here, and here. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Apparently the default option for copying a folder on top of another folder in Finder in Mac OS is to replace the folder. It should have showed you a dialogue confirming that. To merge a folder you have to hold Alt (Option) down as you drag it. It's a bit silly really. The Windows way of doing it is superior.

I think it's pretty straight-forward to set up rsync on Mac OS for simple directory duplication. Or maybe see if you can use Automator's Folder Actions?
