I say that if this doesn't make it in the Artpass that they should put it in a Hallowe'en update.

That poker game was revealed on thursday, I've been working on this for months.

No of course it wasn't

no the poker game was based on his map

Lets just end this debate over TF2-style with: I am happy that everything fits and Rexy is also happy everything fits. That is what is important to us.

The only thing we're not happy with is the trees.

Those goddamn trees.

I was expecting something shocking from you YM, never thought about something like this though. I guess I was right then :p

Looks nice, I wonder how it will look like when fully lit :)

Oh wow.

This is such an incredibly different take that I don't know what to say.

Rexy best release those assets.

Why release when they can just be added to the GCF?

I think it looks far different than the traditional styles of TF2 but looks like it could fit right in with a bit of getting used to. I allways find all maps look of when the screenshots are in hammer anyway, im sure this will be an awesome entry.

Just a quick question, the content you've made for this, will you be releasing these in RED/BLU varients or or if there's only (for example) a red version of the striped wall paper in your map will that be all that's will be released?

I love the idea of the theme, but I've got to echo other peoples concerns about it looking slightly off. Also, those books tile really obviously, maybe break them down into separate models for the shelves and sets of books that you can arrange to make them more unique?

When I first saw that YM was entering, I was like FUCK! Then when I saw the theme he was doing, I was like WHAT THE FUCK. Then I looked at some screenshots. FUCK

We've got several variations, plus singles and piles, that screenshot is pretty old--

Probably not...a few reasons being the models were styled for a 'red' mansion, blu versions wouldn't particularly make sense to me, and there aren't that many models that have specific team ties anyway, it's just a handful of materials that fit into the category you're talking about. If there's a big fuss, It wouldn't be too much hassle to create multi-team versions though.

It seems that if you made the stripes on the wallpaper larger and more exaggerated it would fit the theme more. The style and shapes are a fit for TF2, but the wallpaper seems too dense and realistic which makes people think of CS textures and pulls people out of the style.

That and the rug is really detailed, which is breaking immersion to. If I saw that in game I would immediately stop and start checking it out. Also just running through there its so detailed that even if I didn't stop my eyes would wander to it. Its similar to the problem Whark was having on his map, with the rugs being detailed and highly saturated.

Cant wait to see what you guys come up with next. This should be real nice.

Edit: That fireplace is mad sexy.

If I don't win with this, then yes I'll be happy to release all the content. As long as rexy is too, that's over 70 models with several skins on many of them.

I'm all for matching them up for blu colours, but as rexy says around half of them wouldn't really fit into a blutarch mansion and the other half aren't really team specific props.

Very cool theme, can't wait to see some in-game shots. Also you might like to know that the artist of the Engineer comic is doing a wallpaper-sized version of the old team picture, so you might want to keep an eye on http://makani.deviantart.com for when that happens.

EDIT: Also I remembered I still had these which could be fun to have lying around on a table or something while not being totally out of place.

Lots have said it doesn't seem very TF2-y. With the exception of the trees so far I'm happy with the styling of every piece Rexy has produced, I'm attributing the claims of 'not tf2-y' to it looking not like anything that has already been done in-game.

We're following the TF2 comics' mansion interiors, which can be considered cannon. Thus putting this mansion firmly within the realms of fitting TF2.

The high-tech Australia seen here is also, technically, canon. That doesn't mean it would be a good idea to base a map around it. You might want to watch out with that kind of rationalization - and also for taking the style of a comic as a blueprint for something which comes in-game (while TF2 is sort of cartoony, those two things are still vastly different). That said, I think it looks fitting so far, if a little overdetailed in places. I'd really have to see it in-game to judge.

Why wouldn't the book cases fit in a blutarch mansion? It's a wooden bookshelf with generic books on it. It doesn't scream any team affiliation to me as they stand complacenty on that DEV floor.

I do think the shelves should be a little thinner though.

Kind of think of this a bit:

Which isn't bad at all, in fact, it's a good thing.

These models are some that fit into the category that YM and I were talking about...they're not really team specific, but since they're made of wood, they cater more toward the red team. If I were to make them for a blu team base, I'd probably make them frameless, just the shelves that would attach to a wall, and they'd probably painted metal, much lighter in color. There's no saying though you couldn't use them in a blu base, that's perfectly fine. And the screenshots don't do it quite right, the shelves have a dip right at the end...this becomes more apparent when you can walk around them and observe.

To keep up interest in this thread, I'll be posting a few of the created assets every day or so. To get you started, here's one of the table models:
