Planned changes: Tentacles Structural changes to buildings (non-gameplay changes, visual only) Tentacles Entirely new payload New finale pit design (death pit with tentacles involved?) Fixes to building in spawnrooms Tentacles Perhaps reassessing a few areas to make it less choky/horrible (probably very minor changes, unlikely to make it into the main hoodoo version) The eldritch plateau of Leng (underworld style mechanic, yet to be tested) Did I mention tentacles? Testing coming soon
Why would I name a cthulhu themed map voodoo? Why? Why would I do that. I wouldn't. No one would. Voodoo might be the more obvious name choice, but it's a terrible theme choice, it also leverages real cultures for a cheap joke rather than an entirely fictional mythos. Sorry for not taking the easy road to a bad theme. I'd like to do this properly.
I think that Cthooloo isnt close enough to the name Hoodoo. It shares some features, but it differs just a little too much. I like the reference idea. For maps that have a halloween version either the name matches alot, or its completely diffirent: Harvest -> Harvest Event Lakeside -> Lakeside Event Viaduct -> Eyaduct Coaltown -> Ghost town (keep note that i havent seen a single ghost prop in the map) The ones not matching are: Mountain lab -> Mann manor Voodoo although it would match alot and is easy to type in is a bad choise as many already have problems with hoodoo as name on its own (they read voodoo with an H). So idealy i would either give it a very distinctive name change, or make it something keeping the most important part in (the starting H, the first oo part, and someting similar to doo as sound) im very certain that people will mistype cthooloo (mainly because many might not know what it is - its that you mentioned tentacles alot, but otherwise i wouldnt have gotten the reference) Maybe checking the other ways of typing for a good way to rename the map could help Maybe naming it cthoodoo would already work. It keeps the reference with its name, and it contains the clear hoodoo part. The ct part (just like eye instead of via) is something people just have to remember). But by watching the name it should be instantly clear what map reference it is. I realy like the idea of the tentacles and its reference though, you definitely should keep that idea. And i might have some ideas where you could easily put them: What if for the small hoodoos you will use a tentacle prop that just imitates the same shape. It will give a distinctive change in land yet behave exactly the same. For caves having some tentacles inside it could also work. Even if its just a texture Tentacles used as rope. Bonus points if it shows a clear indication that the soldier was the one doing that.
I thought about cthoodoo, but people are going to call it "cee tee hoodoo" I 100% guarantee it. Besides... IF this were to find its way into any official update, it'd get called pl_hoodoo_event surely. Not involving Merasmus in this, sorry iibo
Well let me just say that when I first saw this thread I wasn't expecting it to be a halloween version of Hoodoo.
