(Yes, MSCP stands for Multi-stage Capture Point, SSCP stands for Single-stage Capture Point)

So, after all the buzz with the super-greedy item makers, wouldn't it be interesting to see all the newfound mappingguys motivation in modeling to boil down in a item-modeling-contest ?

I bet valve would be down for it :)

No modelling contest :( . I missed "Competitive CTF" contest and didn't want to join Artpass contest for various reasons... But I am okay to have modelling contest as a mini-contest.

Could we just have a good old mapping contest without gimmicks?

I think Polycount kinda exhausted the whole item modeling thing, but props would be cool. And very useful. It'd be a nice entry to modeling for me I think.

However, I must stress that I really want another major mapping contest. Like, full map. And I also need to stress how much I'd like to see one where you don't get bored of playing the same gametype over and over every single gameday.

I this was kinda addressed by the PLR vs. A/D CTf contest. With 2 game modes to play with things did not get boring until very late in the contest because of the extensions.

In other words if were to to have say Dustbowl vs. Gold rush (3 stage cp vs. 3 stage pl) I think people would be less bored.

I think a map making contest for cp_gorge-style maps and KOTH maps would be good. Both relatively simple, but making them shine is another thing.

It was a step in the right direction. However, I'd like to see even more freedom in the design - Say, a contest where you make anything you want, the only restriction being that it has to be a Control Point map of some sort. You could make up your own modes or add to old ones, that way no one would ever be bored with the amount of similar maps.

So far I haven't finished my entry in any contest for one single reason: I've disliked the available modes (well, as for the PL contest, I was pretty new so I didn't bother trying).

Well the problem with making it open to "any mode" is that you get maps that are "uncomparable" like 5CP and dustbowl. Both operate on separate rules and its hard to fairly grade the 2 side by side. If only one person were to make say a 5CP they would win in that category just off the fact that there is only one of its type.

That was one of the nice surprises that came up during the CTF contest- that even though all of them were Capture the Flag, they all had different modes, like Invade, Traditional, Keep-away, etc.

Maybe a CP contest like that could work in that your map has to have X points. Whether they're all in one stage, multiple stages, or even capturable by both teams is up to you...

I would like to see a 1-stage A/D contest. Maybe a contest for any A/D mode (CP or PL) the only requirements are that the map is only one stage and that red team must win by timelimit (defending). This opens up many gamemode possibilities that are somewhat comparable to each other for purposes of judging: Linear CP (Gorge/Artpass), A+B=C Style CP (Gravelpit, junction), and single stage payload (badwater, upward).

Here's an idea:

A "round" map. All points are capturable by both teams and one team must control all of the points to win.

What makes it round is that from any given spawn location there are two different directions you can go in order to attack two different points. It would be entirely possible for Red and Blue to switch "sides" over the course of play if they both attack "clockwise" and take points.

I like this idea.

Single stage A/D could also be Invade CTF, even.

How about this:
Invade CTF

The catch is, there's a list of marerials and models.
You can ONLY use these.
