I respectfully disagree with you YM. I feel that Ezeckel is doing a service to people like me who cant download maps from the server. Due to the speed of my internet, it would take me 5-10 extra minutes to DL a map from the server each time the map changes. I don't want to do that. I prefer to dedicate my internet for 2 hours DLing this pack, unzipping it, and then playing then asap. I dont see how it is any worse than me going through every contest thread and downloading them myself, except for they arent zipped, and doing that takes me an hour just to click every one (I exadurate :p). Anyways, I will DL your offical pack, and replace the current one with it, however, I feel thankful to Ezeckel for this one.

If you want a map to play then download it from the thread, you usually have enough heads up for gamedays, even for impromptu's. This way it is garaunteed to be the most up to date map version rather than getting stuck in the very DL queue you tried to avoid. I don't know where this "they are not zipped" arguement is coming from, it is a contest requirement that they are submitted in .zip format for ease of downloading and format recognition (some, have opted for bz2, for server related reasons. But they should be providing .zip mirrors as well).

A number of the maps in the map pack are out dated and wont actually do you any benefits that you claim it does. A map pack implies a certain authority in the contest's presence and causes too many players to rely on the pack which is actually out dated with incorrect map versions. It will piss off more players than it justifies itself being useful to you as an individual.

Obviously Zeke is only trying to help, but he's potentially doing more harm than good with these premature map packs. We thank him for his willingness to get involved but these things are best left to the proper channels. This isn't the first annual contest the mods have performed, they know what they're doing.

As a server admin, I thank ezekel again for the map pack.
It is a rather tedious job to download 26(!!!!) maps, unzip, check extension, bzip or unbzip, upload bsp and bzip2 to various servers, map per map.

Even though the map pack might have a few entries that needs updating, that is far easier than follow 26 development threads seperately.

When "the official tf2maps contest map pack" comes out, I will update all maps again from that pack of course.

Or you could wait for the official contest maps to be announced and an official map pack to be released and do it in one go, rather than wasting your time doing it now only to have to go through the process again later when the new official list comes out?

edit: FYI ctf_sabotage is now b1f.

http://sourcemaps.net/tf2maps/mirror/4th_contest_maps.zip this is the official one, as you can see on http://compctf.tf2maps.net/

or is this one unofficial too?

There were still a couple maps that were missing custom content. For the sakes of the contest quality they are being allowed to include them last minute (It doesn't actually require a new compile to add them, plus the maps did meet the official deadline). I don't know whether that zip is up to date but Booj (or someone...) usually creates an executable file that installs them automatically. The .exe would be the official-official map pack.

edit: Although i have to admit i'm not sure whether an executable is being made i know for a fact the maps are still being compiled in an official capacity. That site was unvailed prematurely and was supposed to be announced for prelims. Unfortunately, in the confusion of the grace period and prelimination method discussion there has been no official prelim start date. In that confusion there has been a watery minor-grace period for maps that missed content in the rush for submitting new versions in the actual grace period.

I'm pretty sure everything will come together over this weekend, where we can stop deliberating and get on with this contest.

TBH, I dont see why not. It would attract a bunch of mapping noobs to test them out. I remember that I could not figure out how to install a map for the life of me the first time I tried.

We've never had an exe for maps, that would be sillypants.

Your libraries are .exe's. I guess they're sillypants too?

I thought the swamp pack was an .exe too...

I said for maps. I did it with the resource pack because the root is very high up, plus I could make the installer automatically set Hammer's config to use the FGD.

Ezekel, please can you do me a personal favour and stop making these packs!

TBH i'm hurt YM. i went to the trouble of making a list, and then people started asking me to add things to the post.
I never made any map packs! you make it sound like this is something i'm a repeat offender of doing.
I was under the impression that TPG was staff, as he's been around a while, but also because i mistook his sponsor logo as a staff logo... so i was under the impression that both the community and the admin/staff were happy with this situation.
i'd like to bring your attention to this:

adding it to 1st post.

i was gonna do the same, but since there's some people updating for bug fixing this week i was gonna wait till next week to do it.

as for everyone else, thank you for your support, but you're also mistaken... i didn't create a map pack i just brought the one that TPG mentioned to light.
all i wanted to do was make a list of maps that got submitted to the contest so i could start making connections in my mind about which is which and identifying the ones i haven't been able to play enough of yet in order to form a good opinion of.
i just assumed people on the community would also appreciate such a list for the same reasons.

edit:
i've removed the links in the 1st post to the mappack downloads.
oh, and if those links were so troublesome, you're admins, you have the power to edit posts that you perceive are causing damage.

Or rather not to in future.

I was unaware you did not make the pack ezekel, your OP did not make it clear that the pack wasn't your doing. So I apologise for that.
